The Office Featured Discussion: So You're Telling Me There's a Chance?

While I adore The Office, this week's continuation of 'Lecture Circuit' was far from the usual Office episode quality and laughs.

But despite the lameness of the episode in general, we did get some surprises and development around the Michael-Holly romance as Michael and Pam arrived at Holly's Dunder Mifflin branch for another presentation, only to discover Holly was off on a retreat, but they could check in with her boyfriend!

This led to a pretty tragic but funny Michael break-down, including him leaving Pam to do the presentation while he visited Holly's cubical to cut off her sweater sleeve and steal a "Dear Michael" document off her computer.

So after this madness, Pam agreed to read the letter to tell Michael the deal - and she told him Holly still had feelings, and it wasn't over.

Now, we've heard Holly (Amy Ryan) is going to return as a guest star soon on The Office, so I'm sure we have to see Holly in some way, but will it be to tell Michael she loves him, or to yell at him for violating her privacy (and her sweater)?

Could this possible perfect romance cut short end in even further disaster or do you think Pam was telling the truth about the letter so there is a chance for Michael and Holly?

i hope the writers keep holly on the show when she comes back. micolly is such a great fit!
but how would they pull that off considering corporate's opposition on their relationship ? (not sure my english is correct sorry=P)

I'm definitely curious how it could work if they did get together with the issues with corporate as you say, zepilas! I wonder if it'd be "okay" if they dated while at different branches - and by the by, why is it okay that Holly dates AJ at her branch?? Was it not okay for Michael just because of his relationship gone disaster with Jan?

I disagree, I think that this weeks episode was hilarious! Jim and Dwight working together to salvage the party (and a nap! come on!), Pam filling in for Michael, perfectly awkward!
I do want to know what the letter said, and maybe Holly will get a different job in Scranton for to be with Michael? it seems like one of the few options they have since corporate doesn't like them dating (and Jan and Michael was a complete disaster that ended in a law suit, so i understand why)

i actually really enjoyed the episode. Jim and Dwights' bonding was great and the best part - Angela licking her cat. I love how they have been sending Michael away more so those left in the office can play up.

(sorry for my english)
I may be wrong, but i think Michael will resign and go with her at the end of this season, that's clear for me. In the last episodes he had anger against his boss and his job "what is the point of that?" 5x12 and when he came back from Canada. He never made sense until this season.
He dedicated his life for this job for years, and corporate still doesn't respect him. I hope he will definitely understand what really matters.

toomsounet - interesting! What a big twist it would be if Michael left Dunder Mifflin! I think it'd be a good move for him, but as a show character, what on earth would we do if Michael wasn't on the show or wasn't the central character for a while? I think if he would go through with quitting or not, there should be some conflict around it that would hopefully make things better for him at work if he could stick around, and better for Holly and him as well.

Thank you Kendra, yes it would be very interesting, and it would be one of the few shows that doesnt stay on air just for money if Michael is leaving.
"there should be some conflict around it that would hopefully make things better for him at work if he could stick around, and better for Holly and him as well."
I hope not, one of the big point of this show for me, is that Michael is just a stupid (but good) guy believing people like and respect him.For years he has been a clown for his employes and a puppet for the corporate, if that changes, that would kill the show. That job is not good for him anymore.(or I completely misunderstood you).
I hope this is the final season, because I love this show, and I don't want it to turn boring.
Your point is welcome

is it just me... Or does anyone else find it a bit odd that Holly's computer was logged in, even though she wasn't there
I just can't get over that part.....

franahan - I was thinking the same thing during that scene! I would think it'd be off or at least logged off if she wasn't there for a week or a number of days at least. AND why on earth would she have that "Dear Michael" document right on her desktop? It's a personal doc, probably written a while ago, and her boyfriend works there, so a lot of strangeness going on. I think they could've come up with a better way to show Holly still had feelings like a Yoda figurine on her desk, or a picture of the Scranton Dunder Mifflin crew on her desk from their weight loss photos. The letter is an interesting development, but I definitely agree the whole thing could've been done better.
