Palin's Wardrobe: $150,000. Another reason to make fun of her on SNL: Priceless.

$150,000 clothing budget - wait, don't tell me - that's for Blake Lively, the star of the fashionable show Gossip Girl right?

Oh wait, that looks like Tina Fey in the picture - so it's Tina's 30 Rock budget right?

Oh no. That's what's been uncovered as what has been spent for the McCain campaign on Sarah Palin's wardrobe since he announced her as his running mate.

Now they're saying the wardrobe will be donated to charity, which apparently is supposed to make it acceptable, but what do you think?

Is spending so much on trying to make Sarah Palin look Vice Presidential appropriate with so many important issues buzzing around this campaign? And most importantly - will Tina Fey have the time now that 30 Rock is returning to play this one up on Saturday Night Live?

Palin evidently normally shops a Walmart ( but she and her family were made to look the part on the campaign. How much has the oppositions spent? Hillary Clinton had Oscar de la Renta come for a personal fitting and he made her all those jewel-toned pantsuits at thousands of US dollars each. Palin is from Alaska, and probably has a closet full of LL Bean type clothes, hardly appropriate for a VP candidate on the campaign trail, expected to look her best at mulitple venues a day. And she's donating the clothes when she's finished! Not much comic relief there, I'm afraid.

Modest? Evidently they demure. See
"Update:Barack Obama spent at least $1,500 on his convention suit according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He ordered a custom made worsted worsted wool two-button suit from the high-end men's suit retailer Hartmax for the occassion. That same suit off the rack, meaning NOT custom made, is priced at $1,500.
The colorful Thakoon wrap dresses ( ) Mrs. Obama has worn, and was applauded for wearing to her husband's convention speech, are priced around $1250 each. Mrs. Obama's favorite Chicago designer Maria Pinto, who crafted Michelle's convention speech dress ( ), charges anywhere from $900-$5,000 for her dresses. Other Pinto pieces, like shirts and accessories, start at $300 each.
The black Azzedine Alaia belt Mrs. Obama wore over her purple Mario Pinto sheath dress ( ) when she gave her husband the infamous "fist bump" retails for $635, according to various fashion spreads. Fashion designer Nina Garcia called the belt a "wardrobe essential" earlier this year for the ( ) NY Post."
Seriously, though, would you vote for a VP that looked like the 'before', or the 'after', in these shots: ? For some Yanks, it seems, it's all about the appearance.

Ummm....all of these singular examples add up to a few thousand dollars. I don't disagree that a $1500 suit is pricey too...but it takes a lot of $1500 suits to equal $150,000...and that seemed to be a one time thing explicitly for the convention.Furthermore, I agree that Palin looks decidedly more political after her makeover and could have used some new clothes...that isn't the question at hand; the point being made is that it's excessive...even if the money was given to her by her campaign and the clothes are being donated afterwards, it sends an interesting message to spend this amount of money on clothes when we're in the midst of an economic crisis.Find me proof that Obama's wardrobe is comprised entirely of $1500 suits and I'll be quiet.

Off the rack, it's $1,500. Who knows what it was custom made, or how many he had made.
Aside from that, what about the $800,000 and ACORN that Obama 'forgot' about, the thousands and thousands of dollars on ad campaigns (interupting the Super Bowl with an ad that cost over $2.5 million!), etc.
This whole campaign, on both sides, is very silly. Both sides retrofit airplanes with custom embroidered leather seats, fly all over the States while touting 'green', and spend heaps of money while claiming to understand the middle class. It's all such a ridiculous joke.
