90210 Season 2, Episode 4: 'The Porn King' Review - Featured

Oh, 90210, you've been less predictable than I judged in my review last week! In 'The Porn King,' Dixon didn't go down in embarrassing flames with Sasha already as I suspected.

It seems instead of the predictable immediate crash and burn scenario, they've decided to go with the dig yourself as deep into the lies as possible scenario. Not much more clever, but at least more fun drama to watch!

So while the lies will have to unravel soon enough, instead of just having the lie to unveil that he's actually a regular high school kid instead of a rich music industry roller, Sasha now thinks Dixon is a porn actor trying to make it in the music business... and that he lives with a middle-aged(ish) white woman.

As is usually the case with telling lies in a new relationship, or to anyone really, Dixon actually got the chance to come clean with Sasha when he oh-so-cleverly asked her what she was like in high school. I don't blame Dixon for not telling the truth at that point since she said she'd changed a ton from her dumb high school self, and even if a high schooler thought he/she was mature, there's no way they were. Fair enough that Dixon didn't feel that was the right moment to spill the beans, but really with the lying about the porn?

How is it ever a better alternative to any lie, besides perhaps prison time, to pretend like you're in porn instead of just admitting that the super nice car was borrowed from your rich friend who's dad made porn? I even feel like he could've admitted it wasn't his car without having to tell the whole truth. For instance, he could have just started with saying he was embarrassed, but it was Navid's car and he wasn't actually that rich, he had just wanted to impress her. It would've taken some clever thought to figure out how to explain having made up that Navid was his assistant, but I think that would've been a lot better idea than telling the girl he's into that he's in porn which isn't exactly what a girl who's already slept with a guy wants to hear.

As Dixon's lies got more complicated, so did Annie's hit-and-run situation (finally)! The nephew of the homeless man she hit, who turned out to be a West Beverly graduate who'd previously had a lot of money and had given a lot of it to the high school, turned up to talk about it, the nephew being a West Bev student himself.

Now it seems the case that this nephew, Jasper, knows that Annie was the hit-and-run driver. That doesn't make a lot of sense right now since Teddy was the only one around to possibly have seen her, but maybe something came up in the investigation Teddy later tells he's not talking about more because, duh, Silver, it's a real police investigation. I'd say either Jasper already knew it was Annie, figured out it could be Annie because of her weird, excessive expressions of sorrow for his loss, or he just sees her as some random unstable girl he could hook up with. Any way about it, I think he'll find out, if he doesn't know already, and I'm sure he will end up tricking Annie in some sort of way to punish her or turn her in.

In other developments, I was not surprised to see that Jen was able to come up with a new way to not tell Naomi the truth about Liam, but I was surprised that Liam was clever enough to record his conversation with Jen! And, by the way, there was no mention or indication of what Liam was doing in that creepy basement so angrily at the end of last week's episode. Was he hand-making a tape recorder? Maybe he just works out his anger making things and that will come up again later...

Any way about it, while Jen was very clever and manipulative in telling Naomi in just the right way about her marriage and losing all her money, it looks like the jig will be up for her once Liam is able to get Naomi to listen to the tape. No more champagne celebrations for you, Jen! Now let's just hope Naomi figures out from that revelation that Jen has been full of lies, and kicks her out instead of listening to and believing whatever Jen may come up with to explain away the Liam situation.

Drama, drama! This week was certainly packed with plenty, and it was pretty darn fun! Speaking of, I almost forgot the fact that Teddy actually kissed Adrianna... and Silver saw them! Adrianna did not look like she pulled away and told Teddy off for doing that, but considering she went to Navid and decided to sleep with him for the first time, she seems to have made her choice of men... though if Navid finds out that Adrianna and Teddy kissed shortly before she slept with him, I don't see him being too thrilled.

So now after all that excitement, I was looking forward to seeing what happens next week - until they showed the next episode promo. Why on earth was all that was included in the promo about Naomi going green and, gasp!, wearing sweatpants to school?

I can only hope that means there's a ton of drama, but any promo clip they could show would reveal too much as opposed to that the episode is insanely dull to the point that all they had to tease us about was Naomi wearing sweatpants.

If it's true that drama actually does occur in next week's episode, what are your predictions for all the crazy situations that unfolded this week?

I actually think Jen will manage to wriggle out of it one more time - Naomi (my favourite character!!) just won't believe Liam. I thought Jen was going to accuse Liam of assaulting her in this episode - didn't happen, but I'd guess it's not too far off - pushed into a corner, maybe that's what Jen will do? Poor Naomi :(
