As I noted in my Office wedding discussion right after watching The Office's 'Niagara, Pt 1' and 'Niagara Pt 2,' there's a lot of pressure on a show once the "it" couple gets together and then there's a big episode like that couple's wedding.
I was a little nervous that the JAM wedding could be a letdown, but I think the bigger test already came when they got together in the first place. It's not only worked and added to fans' love and the humor of the show since Jim and Pam got together, but it's been adorable, funny, sweet and pretty much perfect since the day they first kissed.
So when it came to the wedding, all I wanted was for some insanely adorable JAM moments, plus some hilarious moments from the rest of the Office gang - and I think the episode more than delivered on both!
The Rehearsal Dinner
Since Jim and Pam had a destination wedding, they had the pleasure of having a big rehearsal dinner the night before their wedding with all their guests from Pam's super conservative grandma to the entire Scranton crew.
We got to meet Pam's sister, Penny, played by Anna Camp, who True Blood fans know as Sarah, who's main function was to be hot and hilariously set off Oscar when she thought Kevin was his boyfriend... a few times. We also had the tension of Michael dying to give a toast which we all knew would end up in him butting in to talk at some point, and the awkwardness of Jim's always inappropriate brothers. But we got an extra treat of disaster that we weren't expecting!
Michael did indeed jump in to do some "comedy" which he claimed wasn't meant to be a toast, but once that was over, it turned out that wasn't the disaster of the evening at all, but Jim spilling the beans on Pam's pregnancy was! Jim being the ever-sensitive sweetheart, it was heartbreaking, awful, and downright hysterical to see him save their family and friends from Michael's speech, only to give his own very sweet toast about how he waited for Pam all those years, because he knew he was waiting for his wife... so let's all raise our glasses for a toast, "except Pam for obvious reasons."
Oh, Jim. Lucky for us not in that horrifically awkward room, this spiraled out of control with Jim calling Pam an alcoholic then finally admitting she was pregnant, then Michael going on about how sometimes wearing a condom doesn't always feel as good, and that was okay to admit.
This caused Pam's poor grandma to almost fall over in horror, but Michael actually came through later to tell her in his still awkward way that she should stay because it wasn't such a big deal that they had had sex, and they were going to name the baby after her... which I'm assuming isn't true, but still some decent damage control by Michael.
Apparently there really ain't no party like a Scranton party, because a Bernard party DOES stop... when the host does the splits and stabs his scrotum with his keys. While the initial moment of this were hilarious, the aftermath of Pam getting woken up to drive him to the hospital because she was sober and her reliable Jim was out drinking with Michael and Dwight, then him spending the night on her floor was even better.
The other fantastic moment of the after-party was Michael asking if it was midnight, and since it was, saying to Jim, "and now you're married!" And Jim, "yeah, that's not how that works." And of course let's not forget Dwight being the one ending up getting lucky with a wedding hottie, Pam's best friend, leaving Michael to sleep in the vending machine room, and then a surprisingly disappointed hottie when Dwight made it clear nothing more would come of their "night of passion."
Some say the worse the wedding, the better the marriage, and will that ever be true for Jim and Pam! The wedding actually was adorable, but not at all what they planned. With Pam exhausted from the pregnancy reveal, her parents fighting, and the Andy debacle, she fell apart when her veil tore, leading her to call Jim in to comfort her at the church. We then saw them run off, leaving their guests waiting for an hour!
Now any other couple we may wonder if that meant they weren't getting married, but with Jim and Pam, I think we all knew that just meant they were off doing something adorable. And yes, they certainly were! (Uh oh, I'm going to get teary again!)
Once they reappeared at the church, Pam with her ripped veil and a new hairdo and Jim with his cut-off tie, the ceremony began, only to be interrupted with the YouTube sensation wedding song/aisle dance which Pam had said was absolutely not allowed. But, with all that had happened already, she just didn't care, so they went into an amazingly hilarious and crazy adorable montage of everyone from their wedding party to all the Scrantonites dancing down the aisle along with scenes of what Jim and Pam were up to when they'd run off - getting married on the Niagara Falls Maiden of the Mist boat!
Now that definitely tops the most adorable JAM moments of all time. It was absolutely perfect that they got married like that, but still had the church ceremony to include all the craziness of the people in their lives.
I thought it was perfection that we got so many moments of disaster, balanced with moments of Jim and Pam being the sweet couple we fell in love with. I thought it was interesting that they didn't actually show us the reception, but I think the drama worked far better to be the day before the wedding, and all we needed to know about the reception was that the dancing, fun, and hilarity continued... including Michael and Pam's mom ending the night in her hotel room!!
So what'd you think? Did you fall in love with Jim and Pam all over again with their wedding episode? Were you disappointed with anything? Do you think there's a chance The Office will go downhill now that the "it" couple has tied the knot?
