Vampire Diaries 2nd episode, 'Night of the Comet' gave us the chance to get a better feeling for the seriously tumultuous past between Stefan and his brother Damon.
It also gave us some decent development on how they'll be able to keep it quiet for a while longer that there are two vampires in town.
But what didn't develop so much in this episode? Who Katherine was, why Elena looks exactly like her, why it had to be right now that Stefan returned to find this girl who looks exactly like the woman who broke his heart in the 1800s, and why all of us should care.
Yes, plenty happened in this episode with the Stefan and Damon conflict both about Damon's feeding and killing plus that there was a serious love triangle between the brothers and Katherine. But I feel as if the main plot of the back-story on Katherine and why Stefan is there wasn't developed at all and should have been.
We need to care a lot more about the point of the whole story before we can care about the day-to-day details of who's getting attacked, who's on drugs, etc.
I guess it only being the second episode, there's only so much that can be revealed, but I feel as if it's all happening too slowly because there's so much else happening while the basics aren't getting any explanation.
But besides that, I do like the Elena-Stefan relationship growing and I'm very interested to see how it'll happen that she discovers or he tells her that he's a vampire. I like that it hasn't been revealed that either Stefan or Damon are vampires to anyone yet as it seems in most other vampire shows and movies humans know pretty quickly making a very different dynamic than when it's kept a secret.
But... can it be a secret for much longer when Damon has left a number of dead bodies out in the woods, attacked Vicki and now apparently Jenna as well? Also, it seems that Stefan has a pretty serious struggle with keeping his desire to feed under control, so if something more happens with him being exposed to delicious human blood, that could be a problem. Not to mention the preview scene where it looks like Stefan and Elena get it on, only to be interrupted by her jumping away in horror!
I'm also curious about the deal with turning people on this show. It seems they're following the basic vampire rules of quick movements, not being able to enter a human's home without an invite, and not being able to be outside in the daytime without some sort of aid. So won't they have to address at some point where all the other vampires are, how they became vampires, and if they can, and do, turn people? I think Jenna would make for a pretty awesome vampire, so for that reason, I can only hope someone like her could be turned instead of killed or just feed on then glamored.
What do you think? Are you interested in any developments along the lines of creating more vampires or would you rather just stick to the Stefan-Elena and Stefan-Damon relationship focuses?
