90210 Season 2, Episode 2: 'To Sext or Not to Sext' Review - Featured

Ah, yes, the age-old question of 'to sext or not to sext' was addressed in this week's 2nd episode of 90210.

While it is ridiculous to be creating and using words like 'sext,' since this is a spinoff of an older show where cell phones were just making an appearance, I think it's culturally intriguing to see how high school changes from Beverly Hills 90210 to our own personal high school experiences of past or present, to the world of the charmed on 90210.

So, as it turns out, the advancement of technology isn't just a learning tool in high school these days, but a major upgrade on the rumor mill! Okay, so we figured that out from Gossip Girl that's entirely centralized around the idea of texting and blogging to spread rumors, but without Gossip Girl herself around to tarnish reputations on 90210, it's fascinating to see what just one spiteful mean girl (Naomi) can do with a little technology.

But of course, it wasn't just technology at work this week on the show! It was also the good old fashioned in-person conniving bitch. Naomi may be a mean girl of West Beverly High, but with the influence of Jen, her more experienced mean girl sister, Naomi is far more dangerous.

Not only did Jen do her best to snake her way into messing with Liam's life by going to his house to inform his mom that he should stay away from Naomi, but then she talked him into punching her glass door, and then she so cleverly talked the finally giving Naomi into sending that infamous 'sext'!

Now if only they would make Annie less maddeningly annoying so we would care that her life is in shambles! I have to say I was thinking after Silver was kind enough to give Annie a hug in the halls that even though having a naked picture of you passed around school sounds like the most humiliating, life-ruining thing ever, if Silver can recover from all her humiliation last year, Annie can recover from this.

But... I don't think she can recover from killing a man in a hit-and-run. I was impressed with how well they worked in that double-whammy for Annie right at the end of the episode having her discover the 'sext,' have it out with Silver losing her only hope of support, then going to be alone in a classroom conveniently playing the exact moment of Navid's interview with Teddy where Teddy tells of how he found a homeless man on the road... dying from a hit-and-run.

Oh, Annie. So they did give us the enormous hint of zooming in on Teddy's license plate when he pulled into school for the first time, but this was the first confirmation we got that it was definitely him driving up behind Annie after the accident.

Now what we need to know is if he knows it was Annie, or at least would recognize the car. This could be some serious trouble for Annie, far beyond some high school embarrassment! And again, if only Annie were less annoying for us all to care about her more. But, annoying or not, it's still an intriguing dramatic plotline, so I think the mystery of it all should keep our attention if caring about Annie doesn't.

As for the rest of the 90210 gang, I'm feeling a little uncertain as to if I like that they're making Navid so jealous of Teddy. Between him spending the first episode obsessing over having sex with Adrianna and this episode obsessing over how Adrianna had sex with her first boyfriend now in town, plus not caring enough about his bff's sister to think about running the 'sext' story, there's not much time for him to act like the really sweet Navid we got to know and love last season. Sure, it'd be ridiculous for him to be a sweetheart constantly, but I feel as if he's starting to change as opposed to us just seeing a different side of him.

Here's hoping that he'll come to his senses since he pushed so hard in the interview with Teddy that Adrianna walked out on him. I'm hoping it's more likely Navid will apologize and he and Ad can get back to their usual cute selves rather than them continuing to push each other away to the then predictable development of Ad hooking up with Teddy.

So what did you think of 'To Sext or Not to Sext'? Are you glad Naomi sent the 'sext' to further the crazy drama or do you wish she'd backed down? Do you want Naomi to find out it was really Jen Liam slept with? What do you think will come next for Annie in all this disaster, plus for Silver and Dixon, and Navid and Adrianna?

I liked this episode more than the first probably because there was more drama. That being said, I am still annoyed at how much they have changed characters this season. First Silver, and now most definitely Navid... even Dixon has been more distant to Annie than I would have expected. I knew Naomi would send the text, if anything I was surprised it took her all episode to do it tbh... Nice review :)

Hmmm
I must say I was disappointed with this episode :(, I was just waiting to see if Naomi would send the 'sext' it was obviously going to be sent in the end couldn't it have happened sooner instead of longing it out.
There's not enough drama at the moment. Jen isn't an interesting character, she is just a bitch, normally the 'Mean Girls' have some redeeming qualities or a weakness so that we can relate to them like Blair in GG, but Jen's bitchiness is easy her motives arent clear it seems shes just being that way for the sake of it.
I liked seeing Silver break down in this episode because it reminded us that she is bipolar something that the writers seemed to have forgotten :@, I also like it when Adrianna and Naomi helped out and when Silver consoled Annie.
Navid is annoying me with this Teddy business he clearly needs Ade to tap him.Annie is growing on me but I need more from her, she just seems to lie down and let everything happen to her.Liam is my favourite character at the moment.

Sorry about rambling :)

I loved this episoe, but I was wondering, the man Annie hit-and-run, is he really dead?? I don't think so, that would be far too dramatic, right? Who can live being 17 and having killed a man?! :(Oh yeah, and the real bitch is absolutely Jen ... I so hope that Liam tells Naomi that he slept with her; and of course that she gets to believe him... do you guys think the secret will spill or that Jen will get away with it?
About Teddy, I think he's an ass; all the lies he tell everyone all the time... I don't like him. I hope Ade won't fall for him!And I don't like the distant Dixon (either towards his sister as towards Silver...), why is he doing that?
Anyway, I just think this season is getting better and better. Can't wait for the next ep! And see the mess that the "sext" caused!! :S

This episode was pretty good much better than the 1st one!!! Some bits of course were a bit cliche and predictable but they would be if you're a teen drama addict.
I think Jen is a decent bitch BUT i've seen better characters in other shows playing a similar role like her. Naomi's gettin on my nerves!!!
Silver been a fake barbie doll is HILARIOUS and not in a good way!!! I haven't seen any signs of her bipolar condition which is stupid because her breaking down in the previous season was one of the best storylines if not the best.
I'm actually liking this new Annie because she was annoying in the last season. But this season she's toned down in terms of her happy go lucky innocent girl routine.
I find the Naomi and Liam storyline PATHETIC because i don't see the chemistry between the 2 characters AT ALL!!! There is NO SPARK!!!
I'm likin Liam though and how he's more integrated with the guys.
The Teddy storyline is DUMB!!!
Sorry bowt my loooooooooooooooong comment.

I agree Naomi and Liam do have zero chemistry. I think it is quite far fetched that he even wants her back tbh.
