This is one of the best Office episodes ever. First we got the hilariousness of Michael trying to juggle two dates at Casino Night and Jim convincing Dwight that he could control things with his mind. And second? That is the incredible, breath-taking first JAM kiss! We started this with the heartbreak of Jim telling Pam he was in love with her where she left him hanging (because she was engaged), but then Jim going up to her in the office after she got on the phone with her mom, and they had that incredible JAM kiss which then left us hanging all summer!
After this season finale, Grey's went downhill, but in the heartbreaking drama that was this finale, Grey's was perfection. Yes, this would be the one when Izzie tried desperately to save Denny, couldn't make enough of a difference, but was floating on a cloud with hope that it would, and also with the joy of being engaged. Then the best (worst) moments of Grey's ever hit us as Izzie dressed up for the prom in the hospital, went joyfully to see Denny, only to find he'd just passed away. This led to the memorable moments of Izzie lying with Denny on the hospital bed in her big pink prom dress, then Alex carrying her away.
Yes, the other horribly sad finale moment where the broken-hearted doctor lays in the hospital bed with the dead loved one. House is not one for this kind of drama like Grey's is, so seeing Wilson's love die and his heart break was almost more shocking and heart wrenching than Grey's. And to top it off? Amber's case was incredible and shocking in itself as it came out of nowhere, then the shock continued after discovering she had no chance of survival for unreasonable reasons.
It seems my finale tastes are a little morbid as most of these include death, but that sure does make for a finale memorable. This time we said goodbye to Charlie. His death was expected because Desmond had been predicting it all season, but nonetheless, Charlie went out with an enormous bang. He went under water to the Dharma station to flip the switch that would allow the survivors to get radio communication to get rescued from the island, and not only did he do this, but the big surprise came from him discovering "it's not Penny's boat!"
Much like the Grey's finale, I'd say the Heroes Season 1 finale was the last time Heroes was truly great, though it did redeem itself with the last episodes of Season 3. But as for the Season 1 finale, we came down to the gigantic showdown we'd been waiting for all season - the Petrellis vs. Sylar. The biggest thrill was knowing someone had to die, and it probably wouldn't be Sylar... or would it? The beginning of Season 2 made this battle a cop out, but seeing all our main characters come together, including some great strength from Hiro, made for a truly crowning Heroes episode.
