As a big fan of Ugly Betty, I felt as if I were told my beloved adorable show was canceled when it was announced it was moving to Fridays for its 4th season.
It had been so nicely paired with Grey's Anatomy on ABC's Thursday night line-up, and while I don't think it needed the pairing to survive, it did need that prime TV night, and certainly doesn't need that Friday night death-slot.
While some networks like Fox do generally air new episodes of dramas on Fridays, ABC usually sticks to reality shows like Supernanny, which is hardly a place Ugly Betty deserves, even 4 seasons in. I think Ugly Betty is still fantastic, especially now that I've seen that there's no jumping the shark going on with Betty "getting pretty."
Cancellation Buzz Status:
To put this all into perspective, Ugly Betty's 3rd season finale last May had 6.14 million viewers (more), to which it dropped throughout the season from its Season 3 premiere at 9.7 million viewers (more). So, with a drop of about 3 million viewers over the season, you can imagine why the show was pushed to Friday nights, and why we're concerned that push was indeed meant to be where Ugly Betty went to die.
So how's it doing in its Friday slot?*
Episode 1&2 - 5.01 mil
Episode 3 - 4.55 mil
Episode 4 - 4.5 mil
Considering the drop from 9 million, to 6, to the Friday night death-slot hitting 4.5... it's time to Save! Ugly! Betty!
