Smallville Review: Committed (Season 8, Episode 5)

While I found myself less than excited for this episode due to the mention of Jimmy in the description (I swear I will stop bashing him one day), I actually thought this was a great episode. Although I am slightly biased due to the huge amount of Lois/Clark sentiments, I found the fifth episode of the season exciting, creepy and at times funny.

The idea that some wronged man is going around napping young happy couples and then electrocuting them when they lie about their relationship is an interesting one. And I have to say, I found the villains mask more than a little creepy... In fact, I was quite shocked that Jimmy and Chloe got through the love quiz, yet they did and now there as happy as ever (unfortunately).

Lois and Clarks 'engagement' was funny to watch, even though I did think a little unbelievable as there was a lack of hand holding... I suppose one can wish. I must admit that I held my breath when Lois was asked whether she loved Clark. Despite the fact that it was all neatly explained as Lois' ingenious lying and the moving of the pulse monitor, its out there now and I can't wait to see things progress further. If only Clark had answered too...

The Tess and Oliver storyline did seem slightly pointless to me - if it weren't for the show of Justin Hartley's amazing physique. I can't really see any chemistry between the pair of them, and I find it difficult to imagine the pair ever really being together. I did appreciate a bit more of an incite into Tess' character, although I still remain undecided about her. It did cross my mind though whether Oliver would of still slept with Tess had he not known Lois and Clark were 'engaged'. Then again he did bump into them in a jewelry store meaning he was already buying her that bracelet...

Anyway, overall a good episode and one of the better ones this season. No classic Superman moments this time around but I am sure there are loads to come. Keep it up Smallville.

I still find it amazingly irritating how Clark can't simply save the day - every bad guy seems to have Kryptonite stored away somewhere, it's immensely frustrating imo.
And they still make Clark look really, really dumb by just having him rush in to every single situation without first checking for kryptonite and so and so forth.

True... why did that man have a kryptonite bracelet? Ah well, I will not complain, because without it there would have been no amazingly intense Lois/Clark scene!

I completely agree with you. I mean almost every time he trys to save the day his attempt is halted because the villian has kryptonite, I don't think that the original superman storyline had that much kryptonite. Anyways I loved this episode, I've seen it about three times now, and I constantly wish for the same thing; that clark would have answered the question. I also cant wait for episode 10 because I think thats Chloe and Jimmy's wedding, and thats when the infamous Lana Lang is suppose to return.

The Clois :D..its comming up loud and clear ..and I LOVE that..
but something doesnt really click...am sure my eyes arent playing tricks on me, because I saw the same episode twice...and Lois should have seen clark shooting fire from his eyes!!! yes he shot the thing where he got smoke going everywhere...but shouldnt Lois have seen him shoot fire first!!
so how come she does'nt blurp one word about it in the elevator! thats not LOIS...she usually wants to know what goes where and why...
the elevator "talk" was meant to get us to undesrstand that she isnt letting her gaurd down and thats ok, thats just lois being lois, but the other aim was ""maybe" to get us understand that she didnt see anything, which doesnt make sense at all??!!
any ideas are welcome :)

Well, the shooting fire thing, I think, isn't really suppose to be seen but the creators just added that in there in order to show us what he's doing. If all of a sudden fire appeared, we'd be really confused. It's just like with the other super powers, with his super speed, WE see the wavy lines and slow mo action while the people in the show just feel a burst of wind.

Yeah i'm with jellies i think the whole fire eyes thing was sposed to happen in an instant.
And what do you mean "no classic superman"? am i the only person who heard the line "Statiscally the safest way to travel"?? i was a fan of the original movies and i love it when smallville throws in the odd referance but THAT LINE is essentially the line for clois/superman and lois (i wanna say splois?) anyway in my persaonal opinion this is one of my favourite episodes as i've wanted clark and lois together since she came on the show. and when do we get to see clark flying?! my guess is series end....those teasing bastards

There was a Superman moment...when Clark said "statistically this is the safest way to travel." at the elevator scene.

The creators of the show agreed that there would be no flying. thats why Clark hasnt flown yet. but i agree with bluejjb no flying till the last episode.

Well apparently we will have a break in the middle of the season by where they will decide whether to wrap it up this season, or make another. My bad about the elevator scene, mustn't of been paying attention.
