Smallville Season 9, Episode 6 - Crossfire Review - Featured

Well it finally happened! After many many months of a will they or wont they scenario - Clois finally kissed! But lets not get ahead of ourselves. This was a good episode and there is lots to discuss...

Firstly, I have to say I like the new girl. The underground fighting scene was some of the best fighting scenes I have seen in a while. Like any good potential hero/heroine she has a troubled past, well actually present as working as a prostitute to some rather shady men isn't exactly a great life to lead. One thing I will say though that annoyed me was how easily her pimp seemed to dominate her despite the fact if she really wanted to she could take them all on. That aside, she has potential, and I am looking forward to seeing more of the Oliver that reaches out for troubled people.

Chloe as hacker vs. hacker was one of the highlights of the episode for me. As I have mentioned before, she hasn't exactly been the Chloe we all know and recognise. However, 'Hacker Chloe' is one we do, and I enjoyed seeing her getting frustrated yet eventually overcoming Tess' hacker. Speaking of, chemistry there much? I forsee a rebound relationship on the cards.

Well lets not beat round the bush here... the real story of this episode was Clark and Lois. I thought the idea of them presenting morning television was a good one, and while it was obvious it was just for this episode (you can't take them out the daily planet after all) you could tell that the producer enjoyed their chemistry as much as we do. Typical then that their first assignment involved blind dating. Watching Clark be ever the charming date while Lois squirmed down his ear was hilarious, and I think good at making her fully realise how she feels about him. When it came to her date, Oliver was essentially a spanner in the works. And I felt like the writers were teasing us slightly by making us think that yet again Clois wasn't going to happen. But alas! Lois is over Oliver, and rightly so. Meaning we ended the episode with that longly awaited Clois kiss. It will be interesting to see what this will mean for the pair next episode. Hopefully it won't be filled with awkward moments and they will hopefully start communicating properly.

Let's not forget Tess this episode either as I liked her a lot more. She seemed much more sure of herself and definitely gave 'Mr Zod' as good as he got this time. When Zod sent his assassin, or rather a not very nice Candorian soldier I thought 'oh crap she's in trouble now' as I think we were supposed to. Especially with what they did to her face in the season premiere. However, I must admit I underestimated her. After all, the Candorians as of yet have no powers, and Tess is a strong woman who I definitely wouldn't want to cross. So to see her at the end of the episode waving to Zod after leaving the Candorians tags in his coffee was brilliant, cheeky and essentially hilarious. I realise Tess is supposed to be the replacement of Lex, but I cannot help like her and at times find her hilarious. She isn't exactly a good person, but right now she is the first line of defense against the Candorians as Clark is getting nowhere. After all she is protecting Clark, and could have died this episode doing so.

Overall, a much better episode than last week. It was sassy, action packed and we finally got our fair share of romance! I can't wait till next week!

I couldn't possibly agree more with you since you took all my impressions of this week's episode and put them into words! ;)
One tiny thing though... I knew all along that the kandorian soldier wouldn't stand a chance against her... Mostly because of the countless times we've seen her training or kicking ass and in a lesser factor coz the kandorians, despite them being soldiers, are still adjusting to their human restraints. Nevertheless, like yourself, i found myself jumping UP and DOWN when she waved at "Mr." Zod. ;D
Other than that, complete symphony!

It really was an awesome episode. You got the feeling after the episode that you got from the glory days of smallville, I really hope this is the start an amazing overall season. :)

i agree, very good episode. I like how they are playing the clark lois relationship front and center, it reminded me a lot of the Dean Cain/Teri Hatcher's Lois and Clark - The New Adventures of Superman series from the 90s where that relationship was really the cornerstone of what the show was about, I'm not saying they need to get them married like they did in that series, but I like the fact that they got them together early rather than later.

Mia Dearden, aka Speedy, has been a favorite DC comics character of mine since she was introduced back at the beginning of the third Green Arrow incarnation. I was rather pleased to see her show up in this episode, unfortunately I think her time with green arrow will be short and tragic.
I don't see how Smallville can possibly do the character justice, which is a shame. Green Arrow is practically Clark's sidekick in this show, which makes the prospect of Speedy being the sikekick's sidekick rather ridiculous. Oh well, I'll just look forward to my imminent disappointment as Mia is tossed aside because the writers can't think of anything to do with her.

This was a really good episode when compared to the last episode, and overall. I also like the new girl Mia, and her fighting skills, but I too was wondering why she didn't take care of her "pimp" and his goons with the skills she had. It was also nice to see the old Chloe that we know and love back into action again, doing her old hacking tricks and loving it, it sure has been a while. A new favorite of mine Tess Mercer, is just like a self assured bad ass who takes no bull from no one, not even "Major Zod" and his lackeys.
DUN DA DUN....... now for the main topic of discussion Lois and Clark. Us fans have waited for what seems like forever for something like this to happen, the Clois kiss, whoa that just feel good to say. I really liked how the writers set up the episode, them trying out for a morning TV show, and how they had to go on blind dates, which overall was very revealing for Clois. It showed that they had feelings for each other and they both were very aware of that. Loved it :) tear ;)

I really enjoyed this episode but I was really hoping that the good morning show bit could have lasted for a few episodes so we could see more of their on camera interactions because the chemistry is just too fun to watch.
I also would have liked it to last a few episodes because I feel like the show his the reset button a whole bunch. Like the dozens of times when people find out Clark's secret only to minutes later bump their head or faint or whatever the excuse is for forgetting the last five mins when they knew the truth about him.
They could have even used the same way out that they ended with giving the gig to the blonde but we could have had a couple more episodes of them covering the ridiculous stuff that morning shows cover.

I thought it was a brill episode but was absolutely gutted when they ended it!! To be fair, this whole episode could have been awful and we would have liked it because of the ending. However, it was good all the way through and I especially liked the Chloe moments - I have missed her!! Looks like all the characters are back on track :)

Woo, Chloe's getting back into the game! Glad to see they decided to give her more action and chemistry in this one. And yeay, Clark and Lois...finally!

The only thing wrong is the complete blankness of expression of Tess's face. I've seen her in other things and she seems to be essentially the same in all of them, just a blank canvas with beautiful eyes. I need to see more from one of the principals. The hacker challenge was excellent though.

did anyone not notice Cat? xD. I enjoyed this episode too (though i'm more an emilie ullerup fan and watched simply b/c she was guest starring) but I'm glad you all finally got your moment. I thought for sure she was getting with Oliver again.
The episode was nice though. Props to smallville and all it's fans!
