Smallville Review: Season 8 Episode 22 - Doomsday (Part 2)

Part 1

It occured to me in this episode how much Chloe has been irratating me over the past few weeks. When Rokk appeared and told Clark that basically he was going to die... because of Chloe's actions I sort of had a, 'this whole thing is her fault!' moment. She says she went with Davis to protect Clark, but she stopped him being sent to the phantom zone for no one other than Davis. If she had let him go then Jimmy would still be alive. And in all honesty I hope she realises the error in her ways next season, and we see a more loyal Chloe as I cannot help thinking she abandoned Clark for a while there.

One odd thing that struck me in this episode was Jimmy's funeral. While yes it was very emotional, especially with Oliver crying, I couldn't help notice the odd thing that came out of Chloe's mouth... "You must be Jimmy's little brother..." Am I the only one that finds it strange that you can marry someone and be in love with them, yet you have never met their family? That fact ruined the whole scene for me... as I was entirely distracted by that point...

Anyway, strangeness aside... We ended the episode with someone coming out of the orb Tess has been obsessing with. That person was surrounded by the symbol for Zod... which lets be honest is never a good thing. I am assuming Tess has no idea she is playing with fire to say the least, and it seems we may be having a season premiere involving a very angry Zod trying to destroy Clark. Hopefully before that happens Clark will realise he needs the people he loves around him, because although he is stronger than them all, Clark has always been someone who has needed something to fight for. And right now if he doesn't see the human race as something worth saving he may truly be at his weakest.

In conclusion, like I said not the greatest finale of Smallville. However, it did set next season up with some interesting storylines. I do think next season will be Smallvilles last, I am just hoping they maintain the high quality and we end the show on a high, with Clark finally making the transformation into Superman and seeing that the one he truly loves is Lois... Is that really too much to ask?

I noticed that about Jimmy's family too. They were hardly the no-good lushes that he said they were a fortnight before!I was really annoyed they killed off Jimmy. He was one of the best actors in it - and he wasn't ever killed off in the real storyline. I hate it when they mess around like that. If you actually read up about Doomsday, he could never have been killed by dumping in any kind of explosion - and by the way, that particular size and type of explosion would have taken out half the city! So much for Clark not wanting to harm people! It doesn't do to poke holes though. These storylines are as vulnerable as a kitten at a steamroller convention.Best to just enjoy Green Arrow's bod....

Jimmy was a goner as soon as he learn Clark's secret, really does anything good ever happen to the people who find out his sercet on their own?Blabbing that "i only went with Davis because of Clark" was one of the most idiotic things Chloe has ever said, especially with the mentally unstable person right there. The fight was pretty bad but i accept that Smallville has a very small budget.

Also, in the comics, Jimmy was 10-15 years younger than Clark, Lois at al. So i think they were trying to get it across than 'the younger brother' was infact the continuity Jimmy Olsen from the comics.Plus Doomsday is always resurrected so....(not in the tv series thought)

I know, but did they really need to go "Oh you must be Jimmy's younger brother!" Thats just bad writing. She could have said, "I can only imagine what it must be like to loose a big brother..." Or something. The way they did it was unrealistic. If you marry someone... chances are you have at least MET their family lol.

Yeah he did, James was actually Jimmy's middle name. So maybe the same goes for his little brother. Although slightly odd that you aspire to your brother so much you turn into them lol.

Remember that Jimmy had lied to Chloe up until the night after their engagement party about his dad being an investment banker, when his dad was really a drunken mechanic in Oklahoma. So actually she might have never met Jimmy's family before because Jimmy didn't want it. That line "So you must be Jimmy's brother..." is pretty plausible and not really ruining just more of a revelation.

they'd mentioned before that Jimmy and his family weren't speaking. he told chloe that they wouldn't be coming to the wedding because they didn't know about it and they didn't agree with his career choices etc. he was estranged from them and hadn't spoken to them in years. for a second I was expecting them to mention the brother's name and have it be Jimmy too or some other name from the DC Superman lore. good season finale though.

i think we have established this fact quite well now so either pple arent readin the comments or have decided to be snotty n rub it in her face.
I had forgot as well that jimmy n his family had not talked n also felt that it was rather hashed together the way the writers introduced his family. we are only human

i agreed that this wasnt smallville's best finale episode.. and the battle between doomsday and clark should of lasted much longer than that.. and they should of thought of a different way to kill doomsday thanjust like a explosion that we saw in the episode.
I never saw these things coming:
- lois back in time- short battle clark and doomsday- jimmy dying- only impulse (flash) and black canary came to help.. where were aquaman, cyborg?- that guy standing on zod's initials- clark abonding cloe
and i guess this was about it:P
i also thought the line that cloe said to jimmy's little brother was a bit weird.. but i guess indeed if you look back into the seasons.. cloe never got to met jimmy's family.. so i guess therefor never met his little brother.. i do hope that jimmy told them about cloe otherwise that boy now thinks some random chick/a friend of harry james olsen gave me my brothers camera..^^
i also thought the fact that green arrow, canary and impulse got off pretty good after they fought doomsday.. and davis wasnt even harmed.. while back in the episodes you can see that doomsday litterally killed pp by chopping them up and stuff... and here all green arrow had was a cut in the cheek and canary a cut in the lips.. (impuls wasnt in view during the funeral of jimmy btw) .. this was a bit unrealistic..
last but not least.. the fact that clark left cloe.. i was like wtf? this was pretty extreme.. she lost, jimmy, lois and sort of davis:P and know clark is going to leave her? .. good way to support a friend.. even though he wants to abondon his humanside.. i mean come on.. even though he is a alien.. i bett kryptonians never abondon their kryptonian friends right! .. i really think that the writers took the whole good and bad thing very extreme here.. by letting clark leave everything .. that is human side created.. because he thought the human davis was good.. i mean come on.. i agreed with the review that clark was everything perfect (btw in the review perfection was written wrong *part1) and it isnt.. he realises that his human side is what making him weak and stuf.. and is the reason why he made those errrors . blablabla..
anyhow i guess i missed the news that smallville would be on for season 9... cause i thought that season 8 would be the last season for smallville... too bad in season 8 we never really saw much of supergirl :( well even though this episode was kinda weak.. i am looking forward for season 9:D yiiaaah:D

But Clark can fly now, right...? He flew with Doomsday to destroy him! So yeay, that's definately a good thing that came outta this episode :)
I thought it was good though I agree with others the final fight could have been better. Really looking forward to seeing more of the Clark-Lois relationship develop next season (fingers-crossed it turns out to be as good as i hope!) and i really think it should be the last season - - not because i want it to end, but i think it needs to!!
Jaivomi, good review! :)

CW signed Smallville up for two more seasons. It's rumoured to conclude at season 10. But I'm sure you guys know that by now =)
