S1E10 - Vampires, Witches and now Werewolfs and Slayers?

Hi to all VD fans out there, I'm starting this topic so we can reflect a little on the latest and newest episode.

Here are some of the things the writers have kind of kept us hanging on : A very confused Tyler showing agression (and the full moon as a little tell tell sign). Elena freaking out when she discovers Katherine's 18th century photograph. And of course, the new history teacher Alarick Salzman.

As of Tyler : I don't know if it's just me, but is VD coming out of the closet as a little too Twilightish?. Pretty characters, teenage vampire - human relationship, was kind of enough for me :). Didn't expect to see any warewolfs in this serie. Personally i think VD is becomming more and more complicated a little too soon. With all those supernatural characters they might "jump the shark" sooner then we thought.

Elena so freaked out?! I would expect her to be mad... or dissapointed becouse Stefan kept that from her, but driving fast with tears in her eyes getting away from Stefan?

And last but not least, Mrs. Salzman's ambiguous role in this whole mess :). Wearing a ring like Stefan and Damon, waiting for Jenna to invite him in and staking Logan like he was a prefessional.

Acording to an interview Matthew Davis, the actor playing Alarick Salzman, gave to TVGuide.com, we might look at a Mystic Falls Buffy.

So what do you think, a new slayer in town, the vampire that turned Logan, or does he have his own evil (or good) agenda ?

P.S. I apologize if I made any grammatical mistakes, my English is not the best.

Hey slowdive,
I see the connection you are making...quite true on every point you've mentioned..its very twilightish..( am a huge fan btw) which is probably why VD caught my attention in the first place, and I am guessing that that was the whole idea behind it ( it would grab the attention of millions of fans of twilight itself - in VD they also referred to the book Twilight)..
anyways..am just as confused as you are about salzman, but.. am not sure he is a vampire himself ( though episodes are trying to get that idea through to the viewers).
look at these points
1) ring - could really be an inheritance from his father, and his father might have been one of the guys that fought vampires off) - wears it as a sign of pride and "just in case - he turns into one while killing one..LOL)
2) "wont you invite me in" since it was the first time he met jennifer, it would be rude to just enter, so he is a gentle man enough to ask ( again could be understood in another way!!)
3) stabbing Logan! ...now that was different, he looked pretty scared when he stabbed him with a stick, like he was really terrified of what might happen if he didnt stab in the heart... i dont think a vampire would be that terrified...
4) he is really trying to get closer to Elena's family ( excellent tactic) , but also sincere...again might be for an ulterior motive! ( looking after Elena's bother as well as tyler) ...so!
CONFUSED...
and who the hell might that vampire be! the one Elena ran over!!
any ideas??
btw ...dont worry about ur grammar...your English is fine ( have a look at mine and u'll feel better..LOL)

I think you're completely right. The writers are throwing all this stuff in a little too soon when they should probably spend more time developing the characters they already have first. As we already mentioned before, the show seems to be toggling between some sucky teen drama with a supernatural twist, but hopefully the writers will get it right and soon.

1st of all, thanks for reading and commenting.
@Reemonita - Thanks the encouraging words ;) 1) You're right, could be a family ring given into the lineage of vampire slayers.
I think though Alarick is up to something bigger, maybe it has something to do with the 19th century vampire BBQ in the church . If that is so, the question remains, who turned Logan and who told him about the secondary way of awakening the trapped vampires under the church? :). Btw. I think the person Elena ran over with the car wasn't a vampire ;)
@Metim86 - I too agree it's getting crouded with supernatural. The writers probably want to keep the audience interested by packing up heavily. Personally i don't think it's the right solution, but let's wait for the next episode, they have some serious explaining to do. "the show seems to be toggling between some sucky teen drama with a supernatural twist". You are right about this too, but it's fun to watch (especially Elena :D ).
The awakening of the Vampires trapped under the Church - Do you think it will come to that ? (I mean.. since all the main characters are kind of involved in that matter)

I had an initial instinct of the mystery person's identity as soon as they showed him. It's a new character that hasn't been introduced yet, and I'm basing my theory on knowledge from the books (which is why I won't elaborate since I don't want to spoil anything). However, the TV series has hardly followed the book series at all, so it really could be anyone. I do believe that whomever Elena ran over is the same person who turned Logan and wants to open Katherine's tomb.
As for the amount of supernatural, it has to do with the town's history in the Civil War and the number of people who died there. Creatures of the supernatural are simply drawn to the town, much like Sunnydale and the Hellmouth. I'm looking forward to seeing how they will progress with the Lockwoods being werewolves story line. I think they'll do fine with separating themselves from Twilight. :)
Also, I really don't think they plan on Alaric turning out to be a vampire. He has a ring, but it isn't a lapis lazuli and, unless he lives in the school basement like some vampires of the past have :), school is during the day and he would need to be protected from the sunlight. I think he is just a guy interested in the supernatural and knows how to slay vampires. I do like the theory of his ring being a part of his heritage, and perhaps it plays a role in giving him his powers to slay vampires.

A lot of people feel the show is putting in too much too soon, however I was covering my eyes at the end of that episode I was so afraid. I think the thickening plot line is excellent, it might take them another season to work themselves out of all these unanswered questions which have come up. Besides look at Alaric, We still have no idea of why he is in mystic falls. We don't even know if he is human yet! I am really torn on his 'build' so to speak. However there isn't enough vampirish antics in him that I have seen yet.
But why would the writers make all these references to vampire antics just to say 'well no! just kidding!' I have a feeling either he knows other vampires from his past, perhaps his father became a vampire and he killed him, hence inheriting the ring' or he is a vampire who has put it upon himself to destroy other vampires for the good of humans.
I've read some of the books and so I also have a theory of who the figure on the road might be however it doesn't quiet fit. Did anyone else notice it walked slightly strangely and also, do the vampires in the show need to put their bones back in place, because so far it seems unless they have wooden bullets or stakes nothing really hurts.
I think the figure might be Tyler who has turned into a werewolf and has no idea where he is etc. Maybe that's why his father was so keen for Tyler to fight, to make him turn faster or see if he was near the stage of turning. Who knows?
