I Like...

I like this TV show, but am I the only one who has read any of the books. The TV show and books are similar but there are enough significant differences to make me mad!! Ah well, what else can you expect from Hollywood.

I have read the books and I only see there is changes in the small things like small relationships but not the big relationships or "main characters" I do not know if that still bothers you.

actually ive read the books and there are some major differences like (spoiler) tara isnt a main part of the books until the third one and then she already has her feet on the ground and owns her own store. Sam had no relationship with dawn, in fact they really hated one another outside the work place, jason never does drugs! lafayette isnt a pertinant character until the second book and only because he is dead, pam doesnt seem right to me, the person they chose to play her isnt what charlaine harris describes, pam is supposed to look like alice from alice in wonderland, I love the show because it is so different from the books its like a whole new story line for the characters.

I've not read the books but its like everything that gets adapted from literature to screen (small or silver lol!) things have to be changed. Not only because of the logistics of filming but also because two different people reading the same book and see and feel and think completely differently about something even tho they have just read exactly the same words. The best t.v adaptations of modern work take the base and try to stay true to the authors vision without being too ridgid about it!
:D

I know some of the "little people" in the book are given more attention in this book like Tara but they might of done that to change up the tv series some but as long as they do not mess with the main characters like, sookie, bill, eric, even quinn, and bubba hehehe...I wont throw a fit just yet.

I honestly dont think they are going to include bubba in the series. I think he is a key player but how would they do that? I just dont think it would work for tv. I dont think they can get anyone to play quinn besides who the author portrayed him off of because it just wouldnt go right, unless its vin diesel which we all know wont happen, it wont really be quinn.

well, I am hoping because I did view a video interview with Allen that he said he is going to try to work in the character but no promises so hopefully it can happen if not oh well, like I said as long as they do not mess with the main characters I am fine

I just wanted to ask how true to the books characters like Jason and Sookie and Bill really are? Is Jason really that much of a scoundral in the books? Thanks.

I have also read the books and the "small" changes don't bother me. I actually like not exactly knowing what is going to happen next. If you really like the books more then you should reread them and not watch this. As for some of the smaller part characters from the book having more screen time, I read an interview from Allen Ball saying that they had to find some other things for characters like Tara, Sam, Jason, and Lafayette because the books are from Sookies point of view. If everything happened like in the book, Anna Paquin would be doing about 90% of the talking/acting and would be working 16 hour days! That is unreasonable.

Catsclaw99 - From what I've seen so far Jason, Sookie and Bill have been portrayed exactly as they were in the books, except for Jason's foray into the world of 'v'.
I've noticed the changes they've made but they don't bother me too much. I'm not crazy about Jason doing drugs and stuff, but I'm sure there is a point to it?

I have read and loved the books, but I am totally okay with the TV version. Ok, maybe apart from Jason doing drugs...But see, things have to be adapted for a visual presentation. For more people to follow the show, you have to offer them more characters to choose from...pulling Tara, Jason, Sam and Lafayette more center stage (however temporarily) gives the show more variety.Apart from that - hey, it's way more exciting this way if hou have read the books, because you will still discover new things.

the 'loud' wondering is so overdone now, in so many shows, in so many ways, think about Marie-Alice in desperate housewives or Gossip Girl blogger, or Meredith in Grey's! I like the way they transformed the books to screen, but I wonder what Harris thinks about that! the only thing disturbing in my head is that MOYER/Bill Compton will play Sam in the Starter Wife, I find that annoying, I don't know why!

Charlaine Harris has stated that she is delighted with Alan's version of her world, and that the changes make it interesting for her to watch.

I actually hope it's not like the books, cause I read here that most people started to hate Bill after a while, and I can't imagine Bill doing anything wrong! He and Sookie are so cute together, and I'd hate for them to break up permanently!
