hmmm

So far I am kind of offended by this show. It depicts smart people as being gay no matter their protests, the laugh track is annoying and obtrusive, and the comments made by supposed geniuses are not intellegent. They are simply basic information that anyone with even the slightest knowledge in any of the fields discussed would know. Shows about smarter that average people need to be written by smarter than average people. The pilot could be a bad representation

I don't think it depicts smart people as being gay. Do you see any of the characters falling over each other? And if they were, does that really say anything about all smart people? This is just a story not a biography. To me, they are depicted as more human than is often portrayed.
And of course it's basic information. Do the genius characters seem to be astounded by their own knowledge? For the most part, no. Only Penny and other characters who are not considered "genius" are. People in general are not in those fields so of course the comments are "intelligent" And what exactly is so wrong about the basics of fields that are considered very admirable and for a lot of people hard to comprehend? Why are basics not considered intelligent? If someone came up to you with basic plans for a new never before seen invention, I'm pretty sure, most people would say that's "intelligent"
And by your logic, J. K. Rowling should not have written Harry Potter because she's not a boy or Robert Ludlum should not have written the Bourne series because he's not an assassin who lost his memory. In fact, I could bet you that most writers/screenwriters do not write about experiences that they have had or knowledge they have had. This is a fictional show. Why can't screenwriters imagine what they feel is portrayed about geniuses in society?

I totally agree with you aerochild. And for gobin's information, they have someone with a PhD in physics assist them in writing the show so that it is scientifically accurate. I'm pretty sure he counts as a smarter-than-average person.

I thought the show has improved a lot since the pilot. I'd keep with it before you decide...

Whatever..it's mindless entertainment and if you're taking a fun show that seriously or offencively...you should concentrate that energy onto something more useful.

You're honestly telling me you've seen the pilot, and immediately jump to the conclusion that it's a bad show because:
a) they're portrayed as gay - Well, sorry, but did you miss the plot entirely? It's about one geek, who falls for a non-geek FEMALE!
b) The science is basic - Well ok, let's amp up the science on the show, turn it very, very boring, and make all the watchers feel stupid. I pride myself on being moderately intelligent, and even I can barely keep up with some of the principles they discuss.
So in summary....don't judge a book by it's cover, or a show by it's first episode.

First episodes rarely get it bang on the money. If you stick with Big Bang it becomes a very warm and endearing show. As much about relationships between people as it is about intelligence. The representation of smart people in my experience hold true and the dynamics between them all are excellent.
If you have only watched one episode and jump to a descision get a grip of yourself before you start telling people how awful something is. I personally think you should try something twice just to make sure.:D

well i like it, i dont see how you have come to those conclusions like that just from the pilot. The show uses common stereotypes and makes them funny. i dont see how you got the gay thing because one if them is sexually frustrated, another is chasing a girl who doesnt like him, another cant talk to women he likes and the last of the four has no interest in either gender. its almost as if you were looking for homosexuality that wasnt there, thats your problem not theirs.as for being too dumb for you, get over it. Most people who watch it wont understand what the scientific bits mean and as RoseTylerFan said, if they increased the geekiness it would ruin it for the majority. beautiful people are portrayed as being dumb and we dont all moan.
at the end of the day if you dont like it dont watch it. sounds to me like you dont have much of a sense of humour anyway

I hope you understand that most people will disregard your statements about this show offending intelligent people due to the fact your own misspelled and asinine statements make you sound like an idiot.

Ummm i maybe wrong, but to start the review as:
"So far I am kind of offended by this show."
and then post a comment saying:
"Whatever..it's mindless entertainment and if you're taking a fun show that seriously or offencively..."
you're contradicting yourself and just proved how smart you really are......idiot.
