Review: 'Sanctuary' - Sanctuary For All

"Sanctuary For All" was all set-up and no knock down. The episode unfolded slowly, like a rote crime procedural, and it forgot to deliver any real fun, thrills, or surprises. Read more

I on the other hand found it quite enjoyable and a very good opening for a series. Best? no, but it has my interest enough that I'm gonna try to watch it when it comes on.

the pilot for the series was better then the webisodes. I liked the changes they made to the characters and storyline. I agree that it was not the best pilot i have ever seen, but i can also say that about the stargate sg-1 series. and that turned out to be one of the longest running sci-fi series with the biggest fan base in the history of sci-fi television.

I loved this...it fills a void left by the loss of "Stargate" and waiting for the wrap-up of "Battlestar Galactica". It's a welcome addition to the "Sci-Fi Universe"...dark, mysterious and wonderfully gothic.
I'm looking forward to exploring the "hidden mythology" so artfully alluded to with John Druitt materializing from "wherever", the power of Helen's blood (how vampiric was that?), and whoever it is "they" are that John just before "zapping" out.
If you watch a lot of TV you could see plot points being telegraphed right and left (who didn't see the "Ashley, I am your father" coming from a mile away) but knowing that sets up some excellent interaction between the main characters. The dialog was tight, witty and filled with subtle humor. Amanda Tapping in an English accent really works. I didn't see Samantha Carter at all...maybe it was the brunette hair?
Although it reeks of "The X-Files" (Fox Mulder and his sister vs Will Zimmerman and his mother), "Underworld" (leather clad Selene as apreternatural bounty-hunter), "Hellboy" (the tight-knit band of intreped monster hunters) as well as elements of "Stargate", "Blood & Chocolate", "Buffy" and a few others....no complaints here as there were also all equally wonderful. Nothing wrong with going with what works.
If you regularly practice the "gleeful suspension of disbelief" this show will become a favorite addition to the "sci-fi universe".
Expect it to receive massive amounts of criticism for being stale, and derivative but those people just lack imagination. Thank god it's not on "Fox"! Sci-Fi may just give it a chance to build a solid fan base...just like "Stargate" and "Battlestar Galactica" did.
I loved it and I can't wait for the next episode.
But, that's just me. Odrade

I liked the first ep. but now it looks like sci-fi is doing what they do best... messing up perfectly good shows with cheesy graphics and bad scripts

I think this series has a lot of potential. It's brand new and they're trying to build their fan base, which is not easy considering the fame of other series that have come before on Sci-Fi. But personally I find it kind of hard to adjust to Amanda Tapping character, the accent throws me off after watching her for so many years on Stargate but she pulls it off somehow. I hope the series stays on for a while so I can see where it goes.
