why

The last episode left me asking to many questions. Were the cylons destroyed in the last battle?,or are they still out there? What happened to all the ships they left vipers and rapters they had when they landed. Why did they destroy all the ships and all there technology? Would it not have been better to have left them at the edge of our solar system for us to find, that could have opened up a whole new chapter. will the base ship that they gave to the other cylons ever come back? Lastly there were still thousands of survivors on the 12 colonies what ever happened to them? Would it not be great if they came and found earth? A well so many things that could still be done for BSG spin-offs lets hope.

I can understand your confusion. There was a lot to take in as they tried to wrap things up in 2 hours. I think they did it really well and provided lots of answers. Hopefully I can help you out with my theories, but don't shoot me if anyone doesn't agree with my thoughts.
a/ you can assume all the skin jobs were destroyed in the last battle when the colony was nuked.
b/ who knows what happened to all the vipers and raptors they bought to earth. I don't think it is a major question that needs to be answered or to think about too deeply.
c/ they destroyed all the ships and technology because they wanted to break the cycle, leave it all behind and start over. They didn't want anyone to find the technology or open a new chapter. With making a fresh start, they had the chance of breaking the cycle and not let what has happened before, happen again.
d/ who knows if the cyclons will come back. Highly unlikely as the showed 150,000 years into the future and the hadn't returned. By giving them their freedom, they broke the cycle of violence.
e/ I don't know about the survivors of the 12 colonies. This was never their story. This was all about the Galactica and the people in the fleet surrounding them. As far as I am concerned, the 12 colonies existed only with the ships that were with Galactica on their voyage to find earth.
It seems to me from your thread and questions that you are looking for the story to continue in other storylines, which is understandable as BSG was a fantastic show which a lot of us will miss, but I am happy for it wrap up there. You will have to wait for the new movie coming out in November and the new series "Caprica" to get your fix. As for BSG, it will be no more. R.I.P.

I found a post finale interview with Ron Moore that may help answer some of your questions.
