Sylar's power: Bad or GOOD???

I just saw s3e4 and i can't possibly see how Sylar's power can be used to do good! It's what makes him evil, isn't it? And Peter's power to absorb powers should have been enough, shouldn't it? I am sooo confused... :S

So, does anyone out there have any theories on how Sylar's power could be good?

Well, his power is to find out how things work, fix them, and modify some thing to make it work like that thing. Sylar uses it by open your head and making his head do the same thing. Peter wants to see how the serum works to fix it.

but the future peter wasn't in the past in his time, he just jumped the past peter to his timeline to show him how things end up.so i guess it WILL have a drastic change in the future... but i doubt the "evil hunger" of sylar's power will overpower him

He couldn't heal himself because the Haitian was there who's power is to surpress powers, and once he was dead it was too late.

no i think, but im not really sure, the reason he did heal himself is cuz the bullets are till in his body! i think if they were taken out then he could heal himself. Remember in the first season when the shard of glass was in the back of his head and he came back to life after it was taken out? i think its sumtin like that!

what im really interested in knowing is wats peter's mom's whole plan! cuz we kno she seen the future and how sylar, tracy(or barbara), the fear guy, and Parkman's dad kill everybody!im also really curious about how peter gets the scar across his face???? it better be good!!!
and where did peter get the power to transform his body and put ppl in other ppl's bodies?

even with the bullets still in his body he could heal, the bullets would just get pushed out like claire and sylar have done, the haitian was blocking powers so he couldn't heal there, wot i think happened is that claire then shot peter in the back of the head as that seems to be able to kill him at least, or so they keep going on about it

Dutchboyy,
They probably do starve. But i was thinking when they get to that point in starvation where your stomach begins to tear they heal again or body fat is replaced or whatever. In the end they maintain whatever state they're in when they 'evolve'. Which makes me think that if they 'evolved' at the age of 2 then they would be 2 year olds for ever...
maybe i'm just thinking too much about it.

This show has a lot of different powers, it hard sometimes to keep up with who has what and what exactly the powers do etc. But it is a great show

samo87,
If you remebeer in season 2 someone explains adams power and says something about he's regenerated so much that his cells breakdown and heal in equalibrium, which makes me think that the regeneration power only keeps you a certain age once youve used it enough for it to take complete control over your aging process, so if you manafest at 2 you wont stay 2 but you will stop aging once the body regenerates enough. But it just my theory

maybe i can enlighten with a few ideas!!....1st: like in all comics.... u see the heroes usually evolve or menifest powers around the teenager years (like superman for instance, he descovers flight and heat vision later on) or is triggerd by emotions when they are older ..... and i think it has to do with the reaction of their genetic material to the growth hormones estrogen/testosterone (they develope like breasts or muscles once a human hits puberty) or if triggerd by stress usually adrenalin or endorphins ( like the serum that suresh discovered)2nd: the future peter is dead because the bullet, that clair shot went trough the spinal cord and got stuck there or separeted it in two => so if one whants him to wake up they have to either dislodge the bullet or piece the seperated spinal cord together back together again (like when clair got a piece of glass stuck in her neck and when the mortician took it out and the spinal cord got back in place ... clair woke up)3rd: sylar's power isn't bad in itself ... but in order to use it u have to see what u want to understand ..... and because the brain processes the information of each power and from there transmits the information to the owner of the power in order to manifest it, .... so, u see at first, the ones that evolve and don't understand their power have to learn to use it ... and after a while it comes naturally like bicycle riding or something.....that's why sylar kills .... in order to see................ for example if sylar had x-ray vision like superman or something he wouldn't need to cut everyone open to see how a power works4th:starvation ... occures when the body laks certain proteins, carbohydrates and stuff..... wich are lost through movement and such, and if the body doesn't get it from eating ... it absorbs them from the fat in our body..... and because clairs and adams powers are of regenaration, naturally those proteins absorbed by the body in case of starvation are regenerated by their mutation ....( allthough i think somehow that clair is either related by distance to adam or in one way or another their powers are diffrent) don't know how yethope this helps in one way or another

Zerok60, your theory is good but wrong.....Peter does not want to fix the serum as he does not want a future full of super-people. when he says he wants to fix things he means the future (save the world from blowing up). he acquires sylar's power its to understand how things work (cause and effect, chaos theory etc.) and try to realise what must be done in order to change the future. can't wait to see the next episode. this show is awesome!! later, H

The thing is, the healing power doesn't work if there's something lodged in the brain, like with, for example the glass in the back of the head, and the antlers from when that dude tried to rape Claire in the [I think] first season. So probably, if someone were to remove the bullets from Peter's brain he'd come back to life, but for all practical purposes he's dead. I really wondered about that too, it does seem like a HUGE plot hole.
That's a good question about the starving, i think they may have mentioned something about it at some point but I'm not sure...
Peter's power to absorb is fundamentally different from Sylar's power to understand how things work...I'm interested to see where they go with that though.

Well Sylar's power is to understand the variables and see how things work, so it'd be easier to determine how one action Peter does could change the future. As for the regeneration theories, even IF there was a bullet lodged in future Peter somewhere, that still doesn't explain why he has a scar.

Yeah that's a good point, i hope they explain the story behind future peter's scar soon, because obviously he can just heal when he is hurt, so it'll be interesting to find out how that happened.
Also what was said earlier about Claire getting something stuck in her head in season 1, it was a stick, she fell onto a log.
Personally i think that they can't die the people who have Claire's ability. If they are shot in the head and it goes into the brain then they will not heal, because the brain is damaged and therefore incapable of telling the body to heal itself. if the bullet, (or glass or stick as in previous episodes) was to be taken out as it has been done with claire and Peter then the brain will be able to heal again.
Why does heroes have to be once a week? I wanna see more i cant wait a week at a time! :D

I'm not sure if I'm right or not but.......i think that Claire's power is different and peter and Slyar can be killed some way......wen slyar attacked claire he was like wat r u, ur not like the rest, which kinda insinuates that she prob is the only one who can't die, and in the beginning of the episode future peter looked terrified of claire as if he knew he could die, besides that the future they prob got some new type guns since there so many people wit powers in the future
