It's official: NBC renews 'Chuck' (but there's a catch) - Featured

Finally, the official confirmation that NBC's Chuck has been renewed has come. It has been renewed for 13 episodes. There is an option for a back 9, but whether or not NBC exercises it remains to be seen. Unknown still, as of this writing, but something we'll know shortly when NBC will air it on the schedule. The rumor mill has been suggesting Fridays at 8pm. We'll see.

There are however some additional unknowns. Obviously NBC and Warner Brothers have been haggling over price, and obviously, like many other shows, lower production costs were negotiated. But how much lower, and just what that means, if anything, as far as some of your favorite characters still being on the show as of yet is uncertain.

Michael Ausiello weighs in on what some of the cost cuts will mean:

Here's the bad news: The 13-episode pickup came after Warner Bros. agreed to make significant budget concessions, including scaling back the number of episodes several members of the show's stellar supporting cast will appear in and, per one insider, possibly eliminating one actor altogether (R.I.P. Anna Wu?). The show is also expected to cut two of its staff writers.

what's so bad about friday? isn't watching chuck a lot better than spending your time in crowded places, spending a fortune for a drink while not beeing able to communicate with others due to the loud music?
I do think so and hopefully a lot of chuckfans agree with me on that.
chuck has it all. Love, Action, Humor, Geekiness. It's for singles like it is for families, it's deep as it is shallow, it's fun as is thrill.
what can you possibly want more of a series? (except to see sarah in thet wienerplace-costume again)

Something is better than nothing, plus season one was only 13 episodes (because of the writer's strike). As for moving the night, Chuck was the lone bright spot that got me through the drugery of Monday but I guess it will add one more reason for TGIF!

It was stated, "The rumor mill has been suggesting Fridays at 8pm." Hence the word "rumor" and we all no rumors are speculations, educated guesses that's it. It doesn't mean that it's on Friday's or @ 8pm. And I have heard that it's a mid-season replacement, and with the following Chuck has I'm guessing the network will take the other nine. And I hope Chuck doesn't go back to the Buy More, although I do like the interaction of most of them I could go with out Emmet and wasn't Morgan and Anna going off to Hawaii together? I think that we would get a better Chuck if he were to fully embrace working for the CIA and NSA and not show the Buy More anymore.

I saw elsewhere that Chuck will be on Monday at 8pm after the Winter Olympics. Before the Olympics, Heroes will have the time slot.

This is fantastic news. Some of the shows are great and some shows are of questionable quality, but all in all they have a good theme with which to work. If they are looking for ways to save money, then they can cut the loser Tony Hale. I always hated him on Arrested Development, too. He gives me the creeps.

I can't feel *too* sad about this catch. Chuck is a fine show, but Season 2 felt a bit padded out compared with Season 1. If a 13 episode season means 13 episodes trimmed of all fat and self-indulgence (and I don't mean they should axe Big Mike from the cast), then it's a blessing, not a curse.
