Is True Blood the New Dexter?

Most of the scenes which include any of the Morgan siblings are interesting, but overall I don't feel the need to watch Dexter anymore, and do it only because it's Dexter. Is it because we have become used to the idea of a show with its lead, a serial killer? Was that the only reason we tuned in the first place? I would just love to blame the writing and move on, but, has Dexter fizzled out because we left it open too long? I don't know.

I really like season 3 of Dexter because it is taking an unusual twist to it (killing people that do not fit Dexter's code). Now to the person who is saying that 'True Blood is the same as Dexter' and 'True Blood is better than Dexter' you obviously have not seen season 3. So watch season 3 and then tell me if 'True Blood' and 'Dexter' are the same. I never got around to watching 'True Blood', but I heard some descent things about it.

I like true blood...a lot... but Dexter is something else, and honestly I can't wait for the end of the week to see BOTH... I'm absolutely not getting bored by Dexter, it's well done and there's always more to wait for.. So unless the 3rd season ends with some lame solution to the actual story, I don't agree that true blood is better... and in any case I absolutely don't think TB might be it's replacement..it's another good show, that's all..

I love Dex and TB, but I have to say, TB's acting is subpar in comparison to Dex. In no way do I see it ever being a replacement. Both shows are written based on a series of books. Dex only has 3 books out so far, but Dexter by Design will be out in 2009. They usually write the script in the winter-spring and film in the summer for a fall season release. It's an obvious hope of mine that the writers of the show get advanced copies as it's written to at least get the idea for the next season. I'm sure they do.Anyway, I'm blathering. I got up too early again.

sorry...but I'm with everyone else. I really couldn't give a damn about most of True Blood's characters, enjoy it though I do...but Dexter is probably the best show on television.I love the Miguel storyline and the growth in character. It's utterly fascinating. And, unlike true blood, dexter is other-worldly in a normal world. True Blood tries too FREAKIN' hard.

I don't have SHOWTIME but i tried to watch TRUE BLOOD before I watched Dexter. True Blood is shit. Worse acting than every SciFi original ever made combined. It's based on a stupid too familiar concept of vampires (with no need/desire to eat humans) - Twilight series (and the reversal of the human hearing thoughts instead of the vampire is fooling no one). Basically if you've watched this past the first episode you are gay. This isn't meant to be slandering but to help you realize that you are if you haven't already accepted yourself. Dexter is awesome and for a person who thinks hes a monster he sure does have a big capacity to care. The show rocks and again if you would rather watch True Blood then you would also rather go to brown town on another person of your gender.

Dexter is wayyyyy better.
No doubts about that. It's my favorite show. I love the psychological intrigue.

I enjoy the overall theme of each of Dexter's seasons. The first dealt with his past, the second discovered who he is as a person, and the future is deciding his future. And if you read the book series, you probably see what I did there. :)

squintin> homophobic comments are not a argument, or a critic.... I like both shows, and i think that the idea of Vampires mainstreaming is really funny. The storyline with the waitress in love is a bit cheezy but the rest of the show is terrific. (when the brother kidnapped a vampire in his cave to steal his blood, i can't understant how annyone could find that boring)

This season is just too predictable to me and I used to like Miguel but now it seems his character is too forced. Like out of no where a switch flipped in his head and now he is... I can already tell how the season has to end. Also, I don't know about the rest of you but I feel no sympathy for Dexter and I hope he is found out for who he really is so Sgt. Doakes name would be cleared.

Dexter remains one of the best thriller of all time. The acting and the story lines are becoming better each time. There might be new shows out there but Dexter has attracted a lot of fans and will not be overtaken for at least another 2 seasons.

OK I can understand that some people think that Dexter is getting too slow and losing its edge, but it simply isn't true. The fact is that Dexter has always been a show about a man who happens to be a serial killer, and his dealings with the wider world. If Dexter was a crazed killer who targeted anyone for no reason, then he may well have been an interesting character, but only for a short time. If you only watch the show for the thriller aspect then you are missing out on a huge portion of the story. Over this season we have seen Dexter evolve in ways that I for one never expected him to go, and he is still growing and changing from the experiences with Brian and Doaks and the understanding of Harry's true nature. This look at his humanity, his view of reality, is what makes this show so special. After watching through this season in my spare time I have been watching the first 2 seasons again, and I actually found that I could more easily understand his motivations and reactions through the extra work this season of truly fleshing him out. And anyone who thinks the tension has fallen out hasn't seen the last two episodes :D. In Dex we trust.

squinton , it's possible to dislike a show and have your own opinion without insulting other viewers who disagree.. I like both shows, and i cant see how anyone can compare the two because they seem to go in different directions.

Is True blood the new... Ok, the twitch that is my arm trying to slap sense into a monitor aside, thats one of the most retarded questions ever. Firstly, true blood is a comedy, Dexter is not. Secondly, True blood is bad, Dexter is not. Seriously, not just bad, awful. So awful that the advert for True Blood should have had tiny white subtext at the bottom saying "8/10 rape victims said true blood was the worst thing that ever happened to them".Also, someone just told me True Blood isnt a comedy. That made it far funnier.

True Blood isn't too bad, but it's got none of the manipulation or black comedy Dexter has, and the characters are nowhere near as complicated.
Besides, I think vampires kind of suck balls when they're outside of horror. The whole "vampire with a concience" bollocks is overused as shit.

Both shows are horrible.Dexter's success is only do to it's original(yet completely unbelievable) premise, however the writing is terrible and character motivations are just plain unclear, unbelievable or cliche. All the actors are good, but I wish they were all working on project with more intelligence. Now True Blood: Why the fuck is everyone so easy when it comes to vampires. That show is just one step above Buffy. The vampires are the same boring effected quasi-evil, oh so mysterious, gothic rockstar strutting cliche bullshit vampires we've been seeing in pop culture for 20 years now. People said this show had something, that it was different and original. Well if they believe that, they've been living in a bubble and haven't seen any vampire related film or TV since Bela Lugosi. The show is shit, the writing is horrible, the main vampire hero is just plain mopey and boring, and with the exception of maybe two cast members the acting is mediocre at best- Anna Paquin being the worst. If all you vampire fans really love vampire mythos so much, why don't you expect something better instead of just eating up any fanged turd Hollywood throws at you. Then the rest of us wouldn't have to sift through all this half ass sci-fi and fantasy horror shit so much to find a good one.
