Where are they going? I'm lost - did the writers get stranded on a desert Island? Episode 2

Ok, so I really didn't like the second episode of season 8. I felt like I didn't even recognise the show and the actors looked just as lost as I felt. Everything seemed forced and a little fake, what was going on with Chloe and Clark, and Chloe and the Paramedic, it was just a little too random for me...the whole conversation with Lois and Clark at the beginning was missing it's usual spark, the dialogue was pretty bad and I didn't believe it for one second, plus I didn't like the way in they shot a lot of this episode, they used some kind of glamour or softening filter on the lens, like a soft diffusion and it kinda looked like a cheesy wedding video...After the 1st Episode which I thought was pretty good and was liking the new look of the Panasonic Genesis, I'm left wondering if they can pull this season off and have changed their writing staff?

I did however like that they are stepping in the right direction with Clark's character in terms of him growing and embracing the change he needs to become The MAN of Steel and we're starting to see little hints the writers have started to plant of the character we all know and love...you know who I mean!

All in all, I have to say Smallville is slipping down my ranks a little, Supernatural is really kickin' ass right now!

I think it's just that you are lost. ;)
What was going on with Clark and Chloe? Well, there has always been some leftover [sexual] tension from when Chloe was actively chasing Clark for romance. Even though they don't talk about it, they have feelings for one another, but they know that it's not going to happen. Once Chloe marries Jimmy, she cannot be there for Clark as she has been in the past without compromising her relationship with Jimmy.
Chloe and the paramedic - Chloe is rushing into the marriage with Jimmy - there is still uncertainty [most of which we saw building through last season]. Chloe has this run-in with someone else in the city who is attempting to do good deeds and fight the good fight, and they also happen to be attracted to one another - but oh, she's engaged. So there will just be building sexual tension as she works to figure things out.
It's too bad you didn't enjoy the scenes with Lois and Clark - even at the beginning I had to laugh when he showed up in plaid and she pretty much had to lead him around and guide him through the office [in effect, saving him from making a fool of himself] and then on the outside he can go off and save her, or others, or whatever.
Now, in the first episode I didn't much like Tess Mercer - she seemed really forced. But given another episode it's interesting to see how her approach to things is much different than how Lex approached things. Lex put people in prison and forced them to do work for their 'freedom'. Tess on the other hand is convincing people to join her and her group [which I am assuming is the 'evil' version of the Justice League] where people are coming along pretty much of their own free will - so they think they are maintaining their freedom [whereas they are still slaves/prisoners - she just goes about it differently].
I am still pretty happy with the direction of this season - though it's hard to make any stance when we've only seen two episodes so far. But I've been quite happy [and also not missing Lex or Lana one bit!].
I have a question though - have they made it so that Chloe can no longer heal, or that it's probably temporarily not working while her other 'smart' ability manifests...?

I understand what your saying about Clark and Chloe, of course I know that, but I thought as characters that we were well past that. I thought they should have stuck to the Chloe kinda falling for the new guy...and Clark just being upset about Chloe not telling him she was engaged. I also feel the who Tess Mercers thing is a deliberate attempt by the writers to repeat the past; Clark saves her life, they become close, he gets burned...Ok well I don't know whats going to happen but it does come off as familiar.
I did like the fact that Clark turned up in plaid and loved the blue shirt he changes into and Lois' reaction to that, but there was something missing in my opinion and I think it just comes down to the writing.
Not sure about the Chloe power either...my initial thought was because her power came from meteor rock and he's well a Kryptonian and therefore that just wouldn't work?? But then he was supposed to be human when she tried to heal him, so maybe her power has evolved, maybe she just need to work out how to use it in a different way...hmmm...

Oh and I don't miss Lana, but I'm really missing Lex - he's a fantastic actor and thought he brought a great mix into the story. Was wondering what he's get up to this season!
Does anyone know if they are planning on this being the last season or if they think they will continue after this?

Hey all, Let's not forget that Brainiac did his tentacle thing to her brain in the last season and it affected him in a bad way as it put her in the Coma. My guess will be that brainiac will pop up through her again. The super smart computer ability kinda points in that direction.

Also i have a theory about where lex went. If you remember the cave drawings it showed Clark and Lex as a Two headed man. My guess is that Lex went inside of clark during the last scene of season 7.
