...in one of the early episodes didn't we see Sam WITH that dog on his porch? Or am I remembering things totally wrong?
Yes I guessed a long time ago he was a shifter or were-creature, but this is odd.

You are correct, I remember seeing that in an episode as well. I had my suspicions too, but I think Sam's brother, the one that served in one of the armed forces, is probably a were-creature as well. This could explain Sam being with the dog, however, this also raises other questions such as why didn't his brother know why he was running naked in the woods.
Please, please, please stop posting important plot information without a SPOILER tag in the heading!! Some people haven't seen the show before and it's very RUDE to reveal the information before they're ready for it.
Yeah Thats what I was thinking when i saw it to..And dont read the discussion till after you watch all of them lolPeople discuss the new episodes (spoilers for you) after they watch them.
You are correct. Good eye! You have to remember that by him being a shape shifter that he is able to speak with both species, canine and human. So, that is why he called the dog his "brother".
so what if there are two dogs!!! it is obvious that the fact that there already have another dog helped Sam to exist as a dog, and helped confusing people! Plus he can shift into what he wants!
You don't know if he could shift into anything he wants, maybe it's just a dog, have you seen any other strange animals around? Birds, Cats? No....they would always put that animal in to reference later. Nobody else seems to mention the fact that Sam went to that dead woman's house and played all cat's meow with her bed sheets...
~spoiler via book~ there happy? ;-p btw book cannon doesn't mean anything in this series if the last episode was any indication.
the reason people are saying Sam can turn into anything is because in the books he can. though he needs to look at a picture... the dog is what he can turn into with or without the picture... he mostly turns into a collie because it's strong but not as scary as, say, a pit bull or a lion. I don't know what the dog on the porch was all about... I would like to say that just because he is a dog doesn't necessarily mean that all dogs in the series is him... my father has 4 German Shepherds that doesn't mean 1 dog is in 4 different places.
