The Day the Earth Stood Still - Review

The first 20 minutes of The Day the Earth Stood Still were excellent. It was building for some excellent suspense and action, but only leads to a slow moving, horrible film.

(Don't think the link is working as of right now, but...)I completely agree with what i have read thus far. When it started I thought to myself that this was not nearly as bad as I had anticipated...and then it deteriorated into utter nonsense.I couldn't stand Will Smith's kid or Kathy Bates and a decent supporting cast (including favorites of mine Jon Hamm and Kyle Chander) was totally wasted; this is all of course besides the point that what they ultimately did to the movie's original plot and theme made no sense!

Is it that terrible? I mean, would everyone be such a critic towards it if the original was never made? We have such high expectations of this film becuase of it's predecessor.
I liked it, I also liked the original, it's true that this one isn't quite as good, but it held it's own. It could be that it was a decent movie or it could be the fact I'm a nerd of epic proportions (see, used the word "epic" in a post).
