Weeds: "Bliss" Review Season 6, Episode 4

Season 6 of Weeds settled into a very funny new status quo last episode with "Yippity Snippity," and this week "Bliss" continued the hilarity as the Botwin gang got further acquainted with their new lives in Seattle working low-end jobs at a hotel. It has often been interesting watching this series try to feel its way around into a new premise each season, ever since it abandoned its original suburban setting, but it looks like the writers have found a winner in Season 6. At the very least, Nancy's new partner, a foul-mouthed, conniving hotel concierge, is already proving to be a great addition to the cast.

The episode's fun started early as Kevin Nealon's Doug Wilson, arguably the show's funniest and most ridiculous character, made his presence felt for the first time this season, after his cameo last week. The uneasy dynamic between Doug, Cesar and Ignacio made for some very funny moments throughout the course of the episode and particularly early on, with Doug trying to both figure out the situation and talk his way out of being killed. Whether he was recalling an old anecdote about Betty White's nipples, admitting to his love of Steel Magnolias or referring to Cesar as Edward James Olmos, Nealon didn't take long to remind me why I adore his character. With any luck he'll remain alongside the pair of bloodthirsty killers for a few more episodes, because there's tons of comedic potential in this set-up for the writers and actors to exploit.
