Top Chef's Tom Colicchio Named Top Chef at James Beard Awards

Top Chef head judge Tom Colicchio is the country's top chef.

Colicchio was named outstanding chef at Monday's James Beard Foundation Awards (aka "the Oscars of food"), his first win in the category in seven nominations. The 47-year-old chef has won five previous James Beard Awards, including best chef in New York in 2000 and best service and best cookbook for Think Like a Chef, both in 2001.

Colicchio, who owns the Craft chain of restaurants and recently opened Colicchio & Sons in New York, also has an Emmy nomination under his belt: He and Padma Lakshmi shared a outstanding reality host nomination for Top Chef in 2009.

Season 7 of Top Chef is currently filming in Washington, D.C.
