The Real World: Cancun Premieres Tonight - Featured

As if the past seasons of The Real World aren't wild and crazy enough, the long-running MTV franchise heads to the debauchery courtesy of the spring break capital of the world for its latest installment, set to kick off tonight 10pm on MTV.

The Real World: Cancun, starring eight brand new strangers, is the twenty-second season of the MTV reality show, marking the fourth season that the series moves outside the US, after The Real World: London, The Real World: Paris, and The Real World: Sydney.

"Cancun is a good one to do after Brooklyn, which was a more gritty environment," says The Real World co-creator Jonathan Murray.

For this season's season-long group task, the Cancun cast will work with the spring break resource site StudentCity.com to serve as guides for visiting college students, helping to "give people a safe and fun vacation," in Murray's own words.

In light of the swine flu epidemic that hit Mexico, executive producer Jim Johnston said they've stopped production before "this thing reared its ugly head." No cast members came down with the disease later, says show spokeswoman Lauren Sammak.

The cast of The Real World: Cancun include model and Hooters waitress Ayiiia Elizarraras, Penn State student Bronne Bruzgo, University of Massachusetts footballer turned free agent Christian "CJ" Koegel, Hooters waitress Emilee Fitzpatrick, openly gay Derek Chavez, Houston, Texas native Jasmine Reynaud, Methuen, Massachusetts native Joey Rozmus, and Discovery Kids winner Jonna Mannion.

The eight strangers will reside at one of Mexico's hottest hotels, the ME Cancun, in a suite armed to accommodate the wild lifestyle of the roommates.

Almost simultaneously with tonight's premiere, The Real World: Washington, D.C. is set to start filming for the 23rd season after The Real World: Cancun.
