Which Jim is it anyway?...

OK I'm lost.

Jim is supose to be LEGALY dead but living inside Sam's body, right?

So when Melinda got married last season she actually married Sam, right?

Well 2 things bother me: 1- How can Sam be a doctor after only 5 years when he doesn't LEGALY have Jim's background as a rescuer? 2 - How come in episode 4 you clearly hear a nurse call him "Dr Clancy"?...is he not suppose to dead for very one except for their friends who know the truth?

I'm confused???

In 1 of last season's episodes Jim mentioned that Sam's prior education was enough for him to go into medicine. That(and Jim's knowledge) made it all possible to start right away. Can't remember which episode it was but that explained how Jim(Sam) can be a doctor right now.

I wondered about that too. I mean, yes, Sam's educational background would be enough to get him into med school, but that's still four years. And then a year of internship. Jim/Sam is NOT an intern in that hospital. As far as the whole Clancy thing goes...maybe when "Sam" married Melinda, HE took HER name. There's no law saying that she needs to take his. So maybe he legally changes Sam's name to Clancy. (Although, writing that out, I just realized the flaw in that logic, which was that Melinda didn't take Jim's name, she remained Melinda Gordon. So maybe Jim changed Sam's name to Clancy on his own. That, or the writers screwed up.)

I'm confused about that too!!! I don't know about the american medical system but it wont be so much of a different from Canada. In Canada, there is no way that someone like Jim can be a doctor in 5 years. 4 years of medical school, 4 to 5 years of residency, sometimes you even need 1 or 2 years of fellowship after residency depends on what your specialty is. Medical school is highly competitive, you have to be very active in the community and show interests in areas other than medicine, etc. Only a few people can get in the first time they apply. if they fail the first time, they have to wait and apply for it the second year, and the third year... So it's impossible for him to become a doctor in 5 years.

Remember kids: TV shows never follow "real life" so if they wanted, he could have become a fully qualified doctor overnight.

In friday's episode, he was referred to as dr. lucas. i think the writers just prob screwed up in episode four. and in this season, he's an intern or a resident. besides, like solodanceparty says, it's tv!

^That . . . Also, he couldn't have taken Clancy from Melinda. Melinda kept her maiden name when she married -- both times.

They couldnt do a time jump bigger than 5 years I guess...and no, it doesnt make sense about him already being a doctor, the writers probably screwed up in that episode and...erm...its ONLY tv!!

after med school, which usually lasts 4 years, you are technically considered a doctor, and he would have that title, even as an intern. He is an intern or a resident now, so the timeline works out just fine.
