Am I the only one who hates clip shows?

Ok, I like many here absolutely love the SG series. But cmon!

Am I the only one who thinks that this episode was a colossal waste of time? (mine not theirs :P)

No matter how great this show is for us sci-fi lovers, you can't expect your viewers to appreciate 30 mins of clips while listening to woolsey droll on like a cylon (80's version not sexy 08 version) for the other 15 mins

I hope this doesn't come across as too strong of a critique, but I really did not like this episode AT ALL. I'm not lookin to complain, I just can't believe all the users i've seen saying (as if hypnotized)

"oooh, this show can even do (worthless) clip shows tastefully and in an exciting manner! Hooraaaaaay!

....

Seriously?

Please let me know if this episode made u cringe or at least scoff at what we've come to expect from this show.

Thanks in advance to anyone who reads or answers to this. :)

I would agree with you! That episode was a waist of time and alot of rubbish. They should focus on revealing more truths about things....... We want action entertainment we want to be kept on the edge of our seat not boared to death!

this episode was one of those you would keep on the shelf.
i have noticed from time to time that producers put through slow and boring episodes to null down the audience to a sense of reset. a good episode is always after a bad one and hypers up for a few episode til it cant get any better and then gives you a reset episode.

That's an interesting theory unholy_dragon, and it may be true, because I've played in professional bands and that's actually something that bands do as well, after the first few songs that kicked but, usually you play one that's not really all that great but interesting, and then you crank it back up to get the audience excited with some good songs again.
Still, this was painful to watch even considering this theory! :P

It wasn't an all time great episode, in fact its probably one i'll forget in another week, but at least it reminded us the genii are still out there.
Fact is though, its just something they did to save money.

Okay I had to make an account JUST so I could say this so this had better be worth it.
Firstly: I am a Broadcasting student. I'm going into the buisness of Television. We have covered the different types of shows, in-house, location based, and the horrid Clip shows.
Everyone hates them, unfortunatly the reason why EVERY SINGLE TELEVISON SHOW OUT THERE has them is because of one or more of the following things:
1) Money. They only have so much money for each show. If they have some kick-ass plan that's heavy on action and explosions and Graphics (i.e. - Space battles! Stargate event horizons!) then they will create shows that don't cost as much. Unfortunatly this means that the viewer will typically not like said show.
REMEMBER: THESE PEOPLE ARE ABOUT TO END THE SHOW (meaning big special effects and lotsa money needed) AND THEY ARE ABOUT TO MAKE A TWO-HOUR MOVIE!!! In order to squeeze a bit more money for the movie, they can make these clip shows and make it better.
2) Time. If there is one show that's taking a really long time to film because of schedules of the actors, or equipment malfunction, or the location would let them shoot on the day, then they need another show to stick in there so that the public will be happy there was a show that week instead of nothing.
3) Plot-reminders. Typically this happens when you get to an end of a series. They refresh the audience of all the plots of the past because the show will tie up all those loose ends ie- Killing the Wraith, it's been a goal since season 1!
Besides - it was about damn time the pegasus galaxy made a inter-galaxy federation. Obviously the residents in the pegasus galaxy don't all like us so there would be someone who'd be all 'You deserve to be punished!'
Has ayone thought of that?
ps- don't read wikipedia. the next episodes have all been spolied for me, except the very last one and the movie.

good luck with your broadcasting carreer and I wish you the best of luck!
thanks for all that clarification, although they're all realities that shows deal with like you said, it was just dissapointin to see so many sidereel users being all "oooh THIS clip show was good, not like other shows!"
:O
But yeah, I agree with you on everything you said thats probably why and its a bit like taxes, we dont like it but we need it....argh.
Thx for the comment! :)

I was a bit surprised tho, cuz SG1 had a few clip shows in the first few seasons, and then one or two in the later seasons, but this (if I'm not mistaken) was the first SGA clip show... anywho, it annoyed me a bit that they had to do one, but of course, if it means the next few episodes are gonna be really good, then I'm fine with it.
PS: as a side note, I'm really hoping they bring the whole SG1 team together for the final episode and the movie. especially since I can't think of a plausible way that they could put them on the SG Universe show...

I agree with Kit Nikita, I'm also lucky enough to have a degree in film production. Clip shows do save money, but they spoil the mood for the fans. Especially coming up to the last few episodes, you want to see some real good storylines developing. Just look at Supernatural, in its last series, every episode is truly kick ass.
