'Cougar Town' Boytoy in Talks to Head to 'Melrose Place' - Featured

Do you feel that the actor who plays Courteney Cox Arquette's boytoy on the rookie ABC comedy Cougar Town is not given enough screen time? Well worry no more, Nick Zano, the 31-year-old who plays the boytoy to Cox's cougar, is in negotiation with Melrose Place (2009) people to replace, sort of, the axed Colin Egglesfield, whose character Auggie was given the walking papers recently because his character was "too dark" for Melrose.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Zano, who was also on One Tree Hill and 7th Heaven, will play a doctor who works with Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) and Michael (Thomas Calabro) at Wilshire Memorial. Melrose Place showrunner Todd Slavkin said in a previous interview that the character is "irreverent and funny" as opposed to dark and brooding Auggie. The as yet unnamed new cast member will move into the building and will interact with Lauren.

"He's a guy that, even though he's a doctor, he doesn't take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him and he ends up lightening up Lauren. We think this guy's a lot of fun and is going to mix it up in a great way with the rest of the cast."

If you worry that his potential Melrose Place engagement can put a dent on his role on Cougar Town, don't, because he's done shooting his final ep for the Cox starrer.

I think it's fun to have Auggie's "dark" character on Melrose. I guess they could use a new neighbor with both Auggie and Violet leaving, but I'm skeptical from his overly light performance on Cougar Town that this guy's the right choice. I'll watch and see where it goes though!

Honestly, he's been totally forgettable on C-Town. I think anybody young and attractive could have played that role and it wouldn't matter. Perhaps he'll be given more to do on Melrose...so I'll be curious to see if he's any good.
Also, I think "interact with Lauren" is a euphemism for bone. I'm just sayin'...
