Heroes - What happened to Claire?

I can't believe it would be a spoiler because we've all seen the first ep by now so I won't put it in the title - but what did Sylar take from Claire? Why was she unable thereafter to feel pain? Why would that be important to Sylar? And why couldn't he take her ability?

I feel this was a really, really important scene and we've all just accepted it.

Any ideas?

sylar did take claire's ability as afterwards he pulled the knife out and healed, then he got shot by HRG and healed
claire not feeling pain seems to be a side effect of sylar ecxamining her brain, something did snap when he finally found the area he was looking for and this seemed to have done something to claire

He took something physical out of her brain ("ah, there it is...") and then left, so it wasn't just her ability. What was it?

I think he took her ability to feel pain instead of killing her (Well, he said he can't anyway) because Claire said that the pain made her feel human, maybe Sylar wanted to hurt her the only way he really, permanently could?

Maybe future-Claire is being like that because Sylar made her feel nothing? or something like that :D
I hope they explain more on the show.

Sylar didnt do anything to her. if u were paying attention he commented "no nerve endings" which means he was surprised.

Sylar doesn't take anything, he examines how things work and then he copycats. Like Peter with the watch, however, Sylar appears to have "fixed" Claire in the process, so now she doesn't feel pain as well as heal from everything. For Claire, however, this isn't a fix, but a removal of what made her feel human still.

he wasn't suprised when he said there were no nerve endings, he said that cos the brain doesn't have any, and he doesn't take anything physically out of claire, as soon as he has found her ability he pulss the knife out then wipes his hands, he doesn't put anything down or in a pocket, i do think that he has turned claires ability to feel pain off but i'm not sure if it was intentional

In the future, Claire said Slyar told everything from her. Since Syler live in the Bennett house. It seems the HRG could be killed by Sylar and Sylar has took her family away from her.

i dont think sylar did anything to claire except do wat he usually did to take powers.
i agree that he doesnt take anything physically from the brain, but copies the 'mechanism' in the brain to his brain.
i think claire not feeling any pain is part of her power growing or watever, not to do anything with sylar. i mean, he sounded surprised to me when he found out she had no nerve endings, and aren't the nerves the ones that send signals to the brain when there is pain? moreover, why else would sylar tell her 'you're diferent, special'? i think its just her power, and even adam monroe, i dont recall him feeling pain except when he first discovered his power.

Like timmy86 said, Sylar wasn't surprised, nobody's brain has any nerve endings. For example, brain surgery is done while the patient is conscious so the doctors can talk to them and make sure everything's going okay and they're not damaging the brain or anything.
And as far as the other part, i agree with tvqueen.

tvqueen wins. The brain doesnt have nerve endings like waroftherobots said, this topic really does have me stumped. there are lots of plausable explanations but the only way we will find out will be to watch heroes. Which is what makes it so cool

He "studies things and see how they work".
But to be honest, it's a bit ambiguous, the writers clearly make reference to the fact that he wants to "devour" brains. Sylar has a "hunger" for powers... he wants to "sink his teeth into" them and calls alejandro's power "delicious". The most powerful horror is one you never get to see..
We know that Sylars power can be transferred simply by understanding it. (though that is only to Peter, who can absorb powers anyway.. so he probably had the powered but had not unlocked it) so whilst that implies he can gain powers simply by understanding them.. equally, he could be understanding how the brain works, and therefore the requirement to devour the part of the brain responsible for the creation of adrenaline (as we discover that the powers are linked to the creation of neurotransmitters and can be transferred as such)..
that links with the experiments done by our friend the fly.. erm.. I mean mohinder..-----
About Claire - Can a girl who CAN'T be hurt really suffer a physical injury that would leave her impaired? that doesn't make sense.. on the other hand.. we see her die in the earlier series (visions). So perhaps when Sylar says "I couldn't kill you" he is using his power of understanding to understand that there is another reason he can't kill her... what could that be?
on the other hand.. perhaps, when claires adrenal gland was stolen, and it healed back, it healed back more active? Ever noticed the link between adrenaline and pain? when you have adrenaline, you don't feel pain so much.. The body can only handle so many neurotransmitters at a time. It would also explain Claires extra aggressiveness, mood swings and pro-activeness.. (I guess she had some already)
---
in conclusion.. these writers are adept at keeping us guessing.. and they could just flip it on it's head if they wanted to.. that's the beauty of it.. you can try and guess it.. but they'll probly change it :)

I was so excited to see Sylar take Claire's power because that meant he was going to kill her, but then he had to be un-badass and let her live because he thought she was special somehow. Sylar, you are now a disappointment. Kill the cheerleader and save the show.
