
Typical - you wait a decade for a new Sherlock Holmes, then two come along at once. First Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. struck box office gold with their period take on the super-sleuth, and now the BBC has updated the character to a modern-day setting in the hope that he will spawn a Doctor Who-sized TV franchise.
And rather predictably, the Beeb has chosen two Doc alumni to create this present-day spin, with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss overseeing this three-episode introduction to the character.
