SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND, Starz's new original series, premieres tomorrow January 22 at 10 pm. I had an opportunity to see the first Spartacus episode and I wanted to share some thoughts on it.
Spartacus Blood and Sand is a mix of 300 and Sin City. The visuals are pretty stylized and the dialogue is very shakespeare-like. It's a very graphic show with fight scenes that are very bloody and gory, and sex scenes that are very explicit. The acting is very decent which makes the character very believable.
The only problem of the show and it's a big one is the lack of original story. The story in "The Red Serpent" was ridiculously predictable and actually kind of boring. I feel bad saying this because I really wanted to like the show but I just never got into it. I kept hoping for some moment to really bring it home for me but it never came.
I still think that it's worth a look. The visuals alone make for a pretty intense experience. I will give the show another chance and see some more episodes, hopefully it will get better.
In the meantime, you can go to Starz.com and watch the pilot episode of Starz's new original series, SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND, "The Red Serpent" which premieres on Friday January 22, 2010 at 10pm.
