'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Back in New Live-Action Film

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are indeed going back to the big screen. Coinciding with TMNT's 25th anniversary celebration, the Mirage Group which own the property have come up with the announcement that "Untitled New TMNT Project", a new live-action film of the comic book series, will be released in 2011.

This fifth big screen installment of TMNT will chronicle the origins of the iconic sewer-dwelling heroes. Co-creator Peter Laird said that the film will remain true to the spirit of the original comic books, adding that it will make use of the face replacement technology that allows the four turtle mutants to be much more expressive.

The yet-to-be-titled feature project will have former chief marketing officer of Legendary Pictures, Scott Mednick, and producer of 2007 "TMNT", Galen Walker, serving as producers. Peter Laird, Gary Richardson, Frederick Fierst, Eric Crown and Napoleon Smith III will be the executive producers. No director is attached yet to the project financed by Lightbox Productions.

In Summer 2008, news of another live-action TMNT run wild after Mirage Group hinted at a possible 2010 release for a new movie. At the time, it was reported that the new film will be made into neither a live-action nor a CGI, instead it will be designed as a "hybrid" in the vein of "Alvin and the Chipmunks".
