High School Musical for TV???

Is it just me or is this just another high school love overcoming differences

thing?

It is definately reminding me of HSM - not that it couldn't be good, I just don't see why someone would want to watch it when then have already seen this type of show on the big screen.

Anyway the trailer is only one part, I'll give it a couple of episodes before I dismiss it...

While there might be some similarities in that it's a musical-themed show, Glee strikes me as drastically more offbeat, witty and sarcastic. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the HSM franchise, but it's white-washed family-friendly children's fare. Glee, from the previews, definitely strikes me as vastly smarter and more adult-oriented.

Totally disagree in the most respectful fashion. I love this show and hate HSM. As a matter of fact I think RacheL said it all for me.Hope you will give it a couple more episodes.

Of coarse you are going to see similarity but I think they end rather quickly sure its a highschool doing a musical but its not just a school musical so after that not very similar and sure its a jock going into the musical thing but thats where it stops I mean this show is is going to be a whole lot more than highschool musical was

I have notice they are a lot a like but at the same time they are way different. I hated HSM for the pure fact that it was not real. Everyone looked so pretty and perfect. I understand Disney has to make money and it's a kids show but it wasn't in any way how real HS is like. The thing with glee is that it is about the people you see in the hallway at school. You can actually relate the the people in glee unlike how you could in HSM.

I disagree,
HSM is a cheesefest which very irritating everything (actors, songs, plotlines, dialogue). Glee is a show that puts similar ideas to HSM into a more mature and bearable context. For instance, the cast don't break into song while at a basketball game as if by magic, the dialogue is not absolutely cringeworthy and the subject matter is not fluffy BS.
I really didn't expect to like this show at all (thanks to films like HSM) but now I am eager to see more. Time will tell if the show and its subject matter will be progressive or bland, but my instincts tell me it won't work out to be something I can't enjoy.
Does anyone agree that Lea Michele reminds us of a young Idina Menzel in looks and in voice too (Enchanted, Rent, Wicked)?

Oh and I forgot to say...
To sum Glee up, I would say that it is as though Freaks and Geeks got a HSM makeover...that's the sort of feeling I get from the wit and charm of the show.
