This was very bad.

Did they do some serious cutting on this pilot? I think so, because it was missing way too much. Any suspense that could have been added was killed too. The acting looked like they wanted to rush it, so they can do whatever they want to it.

I agree. I think that - and this applies to most movies and TV series that have do with aliens and stuff - they usually forget the acting. They spend too much time on the CG.
But what they should be doing is nailing the acting - because come on, it's a huge fucking alien ship hovering over us, and they speak English, they look like us, and they want to live on our planet. The way the characters in "V" are behaving to this is very...unrealistic.
But whatever, it's a good way to pass the time. Not a show I'll be following with a passion though. =]

Actually the pilot episode available online was purposely edited by the producers/company/whoever. It's normal up to about 8-10 minutes in, then all the scenes from the entire episode are just scrambled so it makes no sense.
It took me a good hour till I finally found a proper version, but it's out there.

Yeah, I found a good link too. And I saw the second episode as well. Watched it with no expectations, because I wasn't blown away by the pilot.
This show can be so much more, if they would just spend some time on character development and dialogue. =[
