Now that Katherine Heigl's option for Grey's Anatomy's season 6 has been picked up, another batch of questions have surfaced: Will her new movie affect her filming schedule on the ABC medical drama? And will her character Dr. Izzie Stevens return (and not just for one more episode)?
You can't blame Grey's Anatomy fans for being cynical when it comes to official statements that may later come with a twist. After all, series creator Shonda Rhymes has earned quite a reputation for pulling off clever semantics. But TV Guide's Matt Mitovich reports that this is not the case and that Heigl's Izzie will have a significant presence in the fall.
Heigl is reportedly due back on the set of Grey's Anatomy in late July but right now, she's filming the Lionsgate thriller Five Killers, alongside Ashton Kutcher. And according to Variety, she's also signed on to star in and produce the big screen drama Life As We Know It, which will be directed by Everwood creator Greg Berlanti with Barry Josephson and Paul Brooks producing. The movie revolves around two single people who suddenly become caregivers to an orphaned girl after her parents are killed in an accident.
A rep for the actress was unable to comment on the anticipated production start for Life As We Know It, but the film is not likely affect her work on Grey's Anatomy so Izzie fans need not worry. On various occasions, Heigl has simultaneously juggled movie roles and her portrayal of her Grey's Anatomy character.
Meanwhile, fans can catch Katherine Heigl in the romantic comedy, The Ugly Truth, which hit theaters on July 24. In the film, she plays a romantically challenged morning show producer who is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her male chauvinist correspondent, who tries to help her find love. His clever ploys, however lead to the expected result. The Ugly Truth also stars Gerard Butler, Cheryl Hines, Eric Winter, and Bonnie Somerville.
