This Wednesday, July 28th, The CW is premiering a new series called PLAIN JANE. It's an hour-long reality show that airs at 9 pm ET. The concept is fairly simple: one lucky Plain Jane gets a complete make over with the help of host Louise Roe. Roe is probably best known for being a glamour TV presenter (Britain's Next Top Model) as well as appearing several times on the hit reality series The City.
After the Jane receives her makeover, her next task is to bag her prince charming and live happily ever after. I had the chance to check out the series premier episode, Friend Zone Jane a little early so I can tell you a little bit how the show now.
I think most viewers will find Plain Jane to be similar to other reality shows like The Hills and High Society in that although it's good entertainment, it's obviously a little scripted. For example, at one point in the first episode Roe suggests they scope out the subject's love interest, who just happens to be nearby playing basketball in the park. Also, I felt the Jane they chose for the first episode was already super cute. It felt like one of those romcoms where the nerdy girl takes off her glasses puts on a dress and a little mascara and is suddenly the new queen bee.
