Last week's plot is one of historic proportions for My Name Is Earl fans. Darnell's (Eddie Steeples) secret status as a member of the Witness Protection Program has finally been revealed to the rest of the crew's surprise - and all it took was an extra-rowdy outburst from Joy (Jaime Pressly) indirectly brought on by Erik Estrada.
"Estrada or Nada" is a new celebrity game show in which contestants try to beat Erik Estrada at a given task. He's apparently a jack-of-all-trades and can do no wrong, especially in the eyes of Earl (Jason Lee) and Randy (Ethan Suplee). The show is about to hold auditions in Camden and Earl would like to cease the opportunity to do some good old-fashioned karma work. He had once ruined Joy's dreams of achieving fame by using her Fear Factor audition tape as a clay pigeon while doing a little backyard shooting practice (we've all been there).
After attempting to convince Joy to try out for the Estrada gig, she tells him how the Fear Factor ordeal caused her to give up her lifelong dreams of becoming famous. Although Earl feels horrible, the stirring of Joy's own memories are all that's necessary to get her to audition. After an early attempt by her grandmother (Sandy Martin, if I'm not mistaken), to crush her ambition, we're treated to pretty funny montage of Joy repeating her never-changing fantasy of achieving fame through the years. Soon, she's looking at herself in mirrors in the present and repeating her fantasy of receiving outlandish rewards or prizes, only this time, she wants to "beat the CHiPs out of Erik Estrada."
