With names like 'Sharktopus' and 'Dinocroc vs. Supergator,' Syfy's Saturday night original movies might sound silly. But despite their outlandish titles and B-movie premises, they're doing big business for the network.
Broadcasting & Cable reports that last Saturday's feature, 'Lake Placid 3,' scored a huge ratings win. Drawing in 3.12 million live, same-day viewers, the film has now been crowned as the most-watched Syfy show since 2005; usurping an October 2009 episode of 'Ghost Hunters' with 3.06 million viewers.
In other words, the made-for-TV horror flick starring Colin Ferguson of 'Eureka' fame beat popular offerings such as 'Battlestar Galactica', 'Warehouse 13' and Ferguson's own 'Eureka,' which all have averaged between 2 million to 3 million same day viewers per week.
