Gossip Girl Spinoff Preview Poster: Meet Lily Rhodes - Featured

The Gossip Girl Lily-based spinoff is not definitely a go yet for the Fall. However, the May 11th episode of Gossip Girl, titled "Valley Girl", will be focusing on Lily van der Woodsen's crazy childhood in the 80s through flashbacks.

This is what we call a "backdoor pilot", and based on the success of this episode, the network will decide whether or not to greenlight the spinoff series.

So...now we have a preview poster for the upcoming GG episode featuring actress Brittany Snow as young Lily.

Do you like the poster? Frankly, I think they could have done a little better...

Could somebody explain what a spinoff series is, please? I´m not a native english speaker!
What I´m asking myself for quite some time now is how Season 3 will work if all our beloved characters are going to different colleges? Could it still work or do you think by the end of Season 2, all the characters will somehow end up on the same college? Or will they start all over with new characters, like the book series? I really DO NOT hope so...

Hey there- I could see how it's confusing...and honestly..it's more of a prequel than a spinoff.A spinoff is where you take one character (or set of characters) from a show and give them their own show, normally in a different setting. Think Angel following Buffy the Vampire Slayer (where Angel relocates to LA) or Private Practice following Grey's Anatomy (where Addison relocates to...LA).Though this one is being called a spinoff sometimes...it's more like a prequel...where they are using the character of Lily...but set during her childhood in the 80s...so it would be a totally different cast- nobody would be leaving Gossip Girl to make the show - because it would be the character of Lily van der Woodsen, but using a younger actress playing her as a teenager in the past.In terms of Gossip Girl...I think they will all end up in different colleges in New York (there's a ton to choose from) and maybe some of them not going to college right away...so as to keep everyone in NY. Josh Schwartz has said in interviews that he will not be moving the setting of the show from NYC.
