Over the last few months the buzz has been building around Syfyâs new show, HAVEN (premiering July 9 at 10 PM on SyFy), a new paranormal drama based on âThe Colorado Kidâ, a novel by Stephen King. Iâve had a chance to see the showâs first episode and think its going to turn into a hit, especially with viewers who are fans of Twin Peaks or The X-Files. The charactersâ dialogue was well done and engaging, and the writers/film crew did a great job capturing the feeling of a Maine town. The paranormal aspects of the show are well balanced with the investigative side of the show, and hopefully the show can continue walking that fine line. The acting of Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, and Eric Balfour (who was surprisingly excellent as smuggler Duke Crocker) was spot on, and really help connect the viewer to the story from the get go.
Haven covers the story of FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose), who travels to the town of Haven, Maine to chase after an escaped federal prisoner. Upon reaching the town, she finds out that the prisoner is dead, and suspects foul play, an opinion not shared by the chief of police. She teams up with a local detective with an interesting condition, Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), to find out what killed the prisoner. As the investigation into the case continues, and meets more of the citizens of Haven, Agent Parker realizes that thereâs more to the town than meets the eye. By the end of the episode, Parker decides to stay in town as she takes a personal interest in the decades old death of the Colorado Kid.
