WB Week: Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Where Are They Now? Pt. 2

Back to Part 1

James Marsters aka Spike

Marsters hung around Buffy for longer than the rest of them, but eventually popped up on Angel in its final season as Spike once more. Besides that - some guest appearances - Without a Trace, Torchwood and perhaps most memorably as Milton Fine on Smallville. Marsters has also appeared in a few movies - both TV and wide release, such as P.S. I Love You. He will be appearing in the upcoming live-action Dragonball film as Lord Piccolo.

And we can't not mention...

Seth Green (Oz) appeared in a string of short-lived TV series (Greg the Bunny, Four Kings) , as well as the highly successful (and entertaining) film, The Italian Job and will reappear in its 2011 sequel. Also, perhaps most notably, Green voices "Chris Griffin" on Family Guy and is a writer/producer/voice actor in his own series, Robot Chicken.

Eliza Dushku (Faith) appeared in the short-lived supernatural-esque series Tru Calling and will be headlining Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse, premiering next Friday on Fox. She has also appeared in a number of films included the well received wine film of last year, Bottle Shock.

Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn) has a knack for played 'hated' characters. She will soon be reprising her role on Gossip Girl as villain Georgina. She also starred in Eurotrip and Ice Princess, appeared for 4 episodes in Six Feet Under and starred in the recent ABC Family original movie, The Circuit.

Emma Caulfield (Anya) has appeared in some TV movies including "I Want to Marry Ryan Banks" and "A Valentine Carol". She did some voice work for a few episodes of Robot Chicken (as have many other Buffy alums); they must all be friends with Seth Green! She has also guest starred in Monk and appears to have 2 movies on the horizon for 2009.

So...tough call, but which Buffy alum do you think has stolen the show in their post-Buffy days?

Michelle Trachtenberg's smile looks painted on in that photo, lol. I would say David Boreanaz is the most successful post-buffy actor, followed by James Marsters and the Anthony Head. DB has Buffy and Angel, some films and Bones under his belt. The three series' I listed he's had recurring roles and better.
JM has less time on Angel, but more time on Buffy. Then he has Smallville, some films, Torchwood here in the UK (which he was brilliant in). The only reason I put him below DB is because his roles after buffy seem to be guest star roles and not series regulars (barring Angel).
Anthony Head has done Doctor Who here in the UK, a legendary Sci-Fi show. He did Merlin recently and some stage stuff which I'm not familiar with.
Everyone else seems to have faded away into the background, or into failed movies/TV shows. Though I am dreading the Dragonball movie for JM... It's going to bomb at the box office, and Lord Piccolo's costume is just rediculous. Poor JM, but I'm sure he'll do a good job as usual.

I would say Alyson Hannigan more than David Boreanaz for the simple fact that even though they have both remained in TV shows that haven't been cancelled ( Sorry Tru!), Hannigan made into sucessful films more. Close call though. I'll be watching Dollhouse next week though as I usually like Joss Whedon's stuff and also hoping for a Eliza Dushku comeback.
You're right about Anthony Head though. He's the UK version of Alan Dale, in that I mean he just pops up in everything over here! I'd just be sitting watching the TV and in the opening credits it'll be like 'guest starring Anthony Head'......what a shock. Though in fairness, I did hear him say that he felt he spent too much time in the states away from his family when his kids were grwoing up so he wanted to reamin here for a while. Fair play to him.

Alyson Hannigan probably has the greatest name recognition in mainstream america among people who never watched buffy.

I would say David and Alyson both have done pretty well... since I watch Bones regularly though I think David might be a bit more successful since Booth is kinda the main star of the show along with Brennan, while Alyson still remains one of the gang...

Left out. Though not really a main character, Julie Benz, otherwise known as Darla, was on both Buffy and Angel for a total of 26 episodes. If you look at her profile on IMDB ( She's hasn't done to badly herself. She's the supporting actress in Dexter, an awesome show.

The only reason I put DB and not Hannigan is because I saw Date Movie with my ex. I could've attempted suicide throughout that movie because of how bad it was!

other than Bones... what has DB even really done since Angel? nothing really memorable and he just stuck to tv mostly while AH actually spread her awesomeness throughout movies and tv. I do love both actors, but DB is not the most successful one out of the bunch...

Anthony Head hands down. He was even big before the show, but since leaving he has played major roles in and made long appearances in little over 30 projects. Probably the fact that he's British and his nationality takes him else ware for these projects makes him the over looked candidate but his resume for these past 5 years definitely out shines everyone who was a part of the Buffy Cast. I notice everyone has been saying the david guy, he's only done bones so far. Meh.

If you're going by name recognition, I'd say it's Green, Hannigan, and then Boreanaz. Based on money, it's probably Boreanaz, Green, and then Hannigan.
This is based on a state-size perspective. If you weren't a regular watcher of Buffy and/or Angel, it's not likely you'd know who the rest are here in the U.S.

While I do enjoy David Boreanaz on Bones, Alyson Hannigan's Lily is my favorite post-Buffy character. I love her on that show, and her American Pie line "One time, at band camp...." is one that has become so quotable. Seth Green's been around forever, but he's mostly behind the scenes nowadays, so it's easier to forget about him, though he's doing some greatly funny stuff. Everyone else has sort of faded away, though I'm excited to see Eliza Dushku in something again-- she's the hottest actress I can think of. I'd love to see James Marsters in more... maybe something in music? I loved everything about his role in the Buffy musical.

David Boreanaz!!! No competition! It is really rare to see or hear any major news or anything from the other alums but because of Angel and Bones even more so, Boreanaz has been in the entertainment news consistantly over the last . . 7 or so years. He is without a doubt done the best of the alums . .although Seth Green will always hold a special place in my heart:)

I would say Alyson Hannigon is the most successful. While David has been in a popular TV series, Alyson has been in a popular TV series and several popular movies.
