WB Week: Top 10 Favorite WB Characters, Part 2 - Featured

Gilmore Girls - Lorelai Gilmore

Yeah, we already claimed Rory Gilmore as a favorite, but Lorelai Gilmore has got to be one of the best (and coolest) TV Moms of all time, so she gets her very own spot on the list! What made Lorelai so great? She was caring, witty-as-hell, gorgeous, independent and successful - all while managing to remain her daughter's best friend. Major props to Lauren Graham for delivering 1000 words a minute and making it look easy and sound natural. That woman was cheated out of all kinds of awards for 7 straight seasons of work on Gilmore Girls!

Smallville - Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor - especially in Smallville's early seasons - was a fascinating character who always kept us guessing his motivations as he straddled the boundaries between good-guy and villain. In fact, Lex was so likable in the show's early days that I hoped he would magically remain good! As the show progressed, Lex certainly headed increasingly towards evil-dom, though you have to admit that Lex has made for one of the more complex villains on TV, still managing to gain our sympathies from time to time.

One Tree Hill - Brooke Davis

Over the course of One Tree Hill's six seasons, more than one of the characters have at times made me want to pull my hair out (I'm looking at you, Peyton Sawyer). However, I think the one character on the show that has been the most consistently compelling (and not annoying) is Sophia Bush's Brooke Davis. Brooke is definitely one of the most evolved characters on OTH since its earlier seasons, and especially with the 5 year time jump, it's fun to see Brooke now as an "adult" and recognize how much she has changed since Season 1. I think big props also go to Bush herself, who is definitely one of the bigger acting talents of the show.

Supernatural - Dean Winchester

I'm pretty much in love with both of the Winchester brothers on the WB's (and now CW's) Supernatural, but if you tied me up and demanded that I choose a favorite between the two - I guess I am slightly partial towards Dean. Jensen Ackles has just nailed the cocky yet brotherly and protective character of Dean; he's just oh-so-endearing (and did I mention hot)! Dean also contributes most of Supernatural's comic relief as the deliverer of the majority of the program's funniest lines, which seals his status for me as a Favorite of the WB.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer / Angel - Buffy Summers and Spike

I chose two representatives from Buffy/Angel.

Buffy is obviously a gimme. One of the strongest female characters on TV ever - she managed to make slaying vampires and other forces of darkness seem easy (and plausible) in comparison to navigating the travails of high school, college and beyond. Buffy was always the antithesis of the female victim - she was an apocalypse-stopping female heroine, and she was awesome as hell.

I also wanted to single out Spike as he was an unlikely favorite that arose out of the Buffy/Angel-verse. Initially a villain and nemesis of Buffy's, Spike eventually reformed and unexpectedly evolved into a convincing love interest for Buffy, oddly understanding aspects of Buffy's pain that nobody else could. Never did I think that I'd find that bleached-blond hair and scar attractive, but Spike won me over, and I know I'm not alone here!

So...who are your Favorite-ever characters of The WB?

Thank you, what a great list! I loved the WB. Definitely Buffy, and what about Joey from Dawson's Creek? You also didn't even mention Roswell.

Buffy SPike was a good plan.
But...I dunno. I always struggle to see Dean without Sam, or vice versa. I'd have put them both up there. Half the other options were dual anyhow.

Lorelai Gilmore and Buffy Summers have been favorite characters of mine since FOREVER.Dean Winchester is a recent favorite. I can't really think of anyone else, but Lorelai and Buffy share #1 for me, so the rest is below them anyway XD

Spike is a selfish manipulating bastard. He didn't understand anything about Buffy. Nothing! Just saying that is an extreme insult to not only Buffy's friends and their fans. It is just an insult to every decent guy who doesn't try to get a girl by stalking and manipulation. He only understands his own selfish needs and knows how to get what he wants at Buffy's expense. He didn't do anything good for the show. His arcline in S7 destroyed the season. Main characters in the show where only abused to serve Spike's arcline (most notably: Giles in LMPTM and Buffy herself) and if they were of no use to it they were shoved in the background (prime example: Xander Harris). He then went on to destroy Angel as well, (at the expense of the only character worthy of watching that show: Cordelia) until the writers heard the news that the show was cancelled. Spike's one man show stopped and only then Angel became an excellent show.

Cheese79, don't know what you have been smoking, but if Spike had not been on Buffy the last 4 years, I would not have been watching. I doubt there is a female alive that has not had a relationship like Buffy & Spike had, you know it is not good for you but you can't stop. I could feel their pain, plus Spike was just HOT & SEXY. Never cared that much for Angel, to brooding, but loved Angelus. Also liked the Veronica Mars and Logan love? affair. That show ended way to early, the pilot of her in the FBI was great.

I'm totally agree with Elainecleo! SPIKE is my favorite character ever!!!
SPIKE is the best character on Buffy/Angel verse - very well written and he and the brilliant performance of James Marsters made me a huge fan of Buffy and Angel tv shows. And I'd love to see Buffy/Spike movie or Spike - spin off show! I love Buffy/Spike relationship! And Spike wasn't selfish, he gave everything for his love - he passed through demon trials to earn his soul for Buffy and even sacrificed himself for her!
Lex Luthor and Dean Winchester are my favorite characters too.

Hey! Cheese79. I'm with you all the way! While Spike was a fun character to watch, he is no Angel!
I can't understand why there is so many women thinking he is sexy and hot. Would you find sexy a man who tries to get to you by weakening you? Tell you, you don't belong to the normal world. My Angel may have been wrong, but he left Buffy because he wanted something better for her... to her ... instead of Spike, who wanted everything bad for Buffy, so she would be only with him. He tried to made even her friends hate her.
He is nothing, but a jerk, like many men out there. But, then, here in my country women sent letters asking a raper and murderer of women to marry then. In this world, everything is possible.

I am always suprised at how worked up people get about choosing spike or angel. I liked them both, but since i started in the sixth season i got used to spike before angle. But i liked angel on his own show...and I really love DB on bones and JM on Torchwood...
Also,
Keith Mars was one of my favorites, it is not every day that you see a cool dad figure on tv

Willowy13 - Spike is not a jerk!!! He is not a rapist.Yes, I LOVE Spike, Spike is my favorite character not only on Buffyverse, Spike gave me a lot of emotions - he made me laugh and he made me cry - no one tv character did this for me before. His words in the end of the episode "Beneath You" brought me to tears, I've cried in the end, when he died. He is incredible character! I cannot understand why do you hate him?!!I love both of them - Spike and Angel, they both are sexy and hot, both of them are heroes, champions, but I love Spike a way more! Spike fought for his soul, because he wanted it, Angel's soul was a curse, he never wanted it! And without a soul Angel is nothing more, but a beast! Spike loved Buffy even without a soul and earned his soul to be a man who she deserves. When Angel lost his soul he wanted to kill Buffy and her friends!!! Spike defended her sister and he never tried to made Buffy's friends hate her. And Buffy trusted him more than Angel - in the end she had choose him for her champion, not Angel. But you are right Spike is not Angel - Spike is better than Angel and you can take it!

I was NEVER going to watch Buffy, did not like SMG, her voice is whiny not just in Buffy but any show she is in and I had tried several eps of Buffy just could not get past her. But then since I loved David Boreanaz in Bones I bought Angel and was getting answers to questions I did not have, so had to buy the first 3 seasons of Buffy and the rest as they say is history. I think Buffy is the BEST TV show ever made, when SMG is playing against David or James they bring out the best in her and I have cried buckets, but then Spike can have me laughing like an idiot. Joss said that James is one of the few actors he has worked with that can go from Dracula to Jack Benny in a heartbeat. After 3 seasons of Buffy I had to get the other 4 seasons because I was totally in LOVE WITH SPIKE. I do like Angelus, but Angel is way to broody for my taste, I want a man that can be my hero but still makes me laugh and Spike/James does that. If you want to see just how funny James and "Lex" can be check out this link This is the first video, there are 6 total..so watch them all.

Just to add, I am such a big fan of Spike that ANY show, movie or TV that James Marsters is in I will be there to watch. He has the best voice, when he drops his voice down and turns sexy I melt. He also reads the audio books of The Dresden Files and I have preordered the new ones that come out in April. He is just an all around complete actor and I am looking forward to Dragonball coming out in April and if Spike had not been in Buffy I would not have watched after Angel left. SPOILER ALERT.....Spike was the true champion and Angel knew it and that is why Spike won the big fight in Destiny. He fought for his soul and Angel fought to keep from getting his back...more than once, his true self was a killer. Even without a soul Spike tried to protected Dawn because he loved Buffy.

Click to reveal spoilers.

I loved that you included Buffy/Spike on your list I agree they were my primary reason for watching BUFFY.
The rest of my list includes
Angel/Cordelia- without the two of them together angel just wasnt the same
I also really love Prue on Charmed she was my favorite sister, never really cared for Paige
Totally with ya when is comes to Dean being my favorite Winchester Brother.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Lois on Smallville especially recently she's the only character that's staying true to mythos.
I can't forget Willow on Buffy one of my faves for sure; loved how she just keep getting stronger.

Willowy13 and Cheese79, you both obviously didn't really watch the shows both Buffy and Angel. i mean...every word you said about Spike's character is not only wrong, it's also ridiculous!!!!Spike destroyed Buffy's show!!!!...if it wasn't for Spike this show would have probably been a big failure. a lot of Buffy fans wouldn't have watched this show if it wasn't for him..everybody knows that even Joss himself and that's why he kept enlarging his role until he moved him to Angel -to save us from the boredom of watching only Angel- in season five which was absolutly the best Angel season ever BECAUSE OF SPIKE.
and the way you analyze his acts by saying he is selfish, rapist is very superficial!!!!i really can't believe some people still think that way!!! we're not in kindergarden here people these are COMPLICATED ADULTS FEELING ...these situations are deeper than this...Spike's character was the deepest most amazing character in both shows...and if i would choose the RIGHT WORDS to describe him that would be LOYAL...GENTLE...TRUE HERO....the guy was love walking on two legs and if you truly want to hold his way of loving Buffy untill season 6 against him than to be fair you should be comparing that to ANGELUS not ANGEL cause they both didn't have souls then...but you guys don't do that cause you know where that comparision will lead to.
I LOVE SPIKE BECAUSE:
HE COULD LOVE WITHOUT A SOULHE FAUGHT AND EARNED HIS SOUL ( btw,HE DID NOT go to Africa to remove his chip)HE HELD ON TO THE WOMAN HE LOVED, AND DIDN'T RUNAWAY LIKE A COWARDHE SACRIFICED HIMSELF TO SAVE THE WORLDHE WAS SWEET AND DECENT AS HUMAN WILLIAM UNLIKE LIAM WHO WAS A WOMENIZING DRUNK...HE DOESN'T NEED A SOUL TO FEEL UNLIKE ANGELUS WHO IS A COMPLETE BASTARD..AND HE WAS THE SWEETEST, BRAVEST MOST LOVING PERSON WITH THE SOUL UNLIKE ANGEL WHOM I THINK HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TRUE LOVE MEANS

Willowy13 and Cheese79: Are you crazy?? I'm with Verity and elainecleo all the way!!! I'm not going to repeat the very good reasons they already posted, but I'm gonna say this: Buffy herself (SMG) said in an interview that Spike went from disposable villain to a character that the show couldn't survive without!!! I've been a vampire stories lover since...well...forever and I couldn't get past Angel, he was always feeling sorry for himself and I got bored! If not for Spike I'd have never liked that show. But now is an all time favorite. In the end his character got so big that it wasn't possible for Buffy to end up with Angel, like she was supposed in the beginning! (she does choose Spike for her champion). They kept Spike alive because if not nobody would watch another season of Angel!!! Don't get me wrong: I don't absolute hate Angel, but Spike is WAYYY better! Just check the fan sites, fan fiction and social networks and know what MOST of us think!!! And James is an AMAZING actor!Enough said that Spike keeps getting fans all over the world even when the show ended so many years ago!!!!

I'm crazy.... if that means I'll have a man who can put me up and never down. Surely YOU did not watch the shows.
Spike was a raper... to say the least. Rape are never superficial... are you telling me you want to be raped? You want your body to be taken like you are just a piece of meat to satisfy some stupid guy? Can you picture yourself being raped? Tell me again it is superficial. If you still think this way... well... I feel sorry for you! Really!
I know I don't want to be near a man able to do it.
If Buffy were not the strong woman she was... do you really think he would have stopped it?
God!!! Now I know why there are so many women raped in States?
Spike became a boring character exactly when he fell in love with Buffy (I'm miss Dru). Besides, he drove Buffy way of who she was. He helped her to get more and more confused about being back. I won't ever understand some kind of women!

LOL... WillowY13 I don't know what you eat for breakfast but your strange... :)
A few things... Spike is not a Man he's a vampire...
This vampire had no soul all the way up until season seven. When you compare Angel without a soul to Spike without a soul, I think we know who comes out the worse ;)
Didn't Angel try to kill Buffy's friends? Who actually succeeded on one occasion by snapping her neck? He belittled Buffy about her love making, which defiantly weakened her. He got great pleasure in telling Joyce she had lost her virginity, torturing Giles, trying to end the world. All the time there was no remorse from him and no sign of any good in him.
Spike being the kind of Vampire he was, didn't even try to continue when Buffy stopped him. Even though stopping isn't in a vampires nature, and we all know the fight has always excited Spike, but not this time!!!
I wish people wouldn't judge a character by a few episodes. Spike's character may have done some bad/wrong decisions, but he also did so many good things in his 6 seasons. Some without a soul. Spike haters choose to forget this.
I always find strange that after that bathroom scene with Spike and Buffy, she then sat amongst her friends looking all sad in her turtleneck sweater, like a victim. BUT the next episode, she's turned up at Spikes crib looking for him to babysit her little sister. What woman in there right mind would do that if she really thought that person/Vampire had it in them to rape someone? If Buffy really thought Spike was dangerous and a rapist, she wouldn't have gone to Spike for help in looking after the most important thing in her life.
WillowY13 quote "I can't understand why there is so many women thinking he is sexy and hot. He tried to made even her friends hate her"
Did you watch the episode where Buffy's friends turned their back on her? Who was there to give her the strength she needed. SPIKE!!!!! Who stayed around after Buffy's death to help and protect her friends? SPIKE!!!!!
When Spike was resurrected he left Buffy alone, and stayed with Angel so she could move on with her life. Just as Angel had did.
I love Both Angel and Spike. Both such great characters and both brought so much to the shows.
I personally don't like Buffy's character; she annoys me with her double standards. Angel and Spike are both better off without her.
But i do agree, Spike did become a little boring in Season 7 for me. I was so glad when we saw some of the old Spike in Angel.

By God, get over it. Spike was great -bad. Whatever. I always enjoy a good discussion/catfight, but really now kids? This is just plain silly. Behave children.
Oh well. Now I will be a squealing fangirl and act like I'm 16. I'm not being a hypocrite. Not at all.
I've gotta say that Veronica Mars will always have a big piece of my heart. She was just so impossibly cool, while being endearingly humane. She is one of the only (perhaps the only) character(s) ever, to be seen by her peers in the show, as the lowest of uncoolness, and all the while managing to be the one person you would most like to be on the show. That's just rare. She was so sharp and witty - and just way cool. She didn't really get any recognition from it. Quite the opposite actually (on the show). Which was what made her so wonderfully real. She was just swell!
Willow was the coolest witch ever (believe me, I've seen enough shitty stuff, to know what I'm talking about) and Cordelia was always good fun, because she started out like a cliché and ended up being an actual well rounded character.
Also Lorelai Gilmore will always be someone I'll partly aspire to be. She was just such a fascinating person. I think my love for her stems from some of the same reasons as my love for Veronica. They both had these glamorous worlds and they dared to choose individuality instead. Besides - she was the coolest mom ever!

Willowy13,this is EXACTLY why i called your way of analyzing superficial!!! THERE IS NO WOMAN ON EARTH who would be happy to be raped...but that IS the point of superficial.in this bathroom scene what most of the people refuse to see is that it came after a loooooong time where Buffy was using Spike to get over her bad feelings after coming back, eventhough she knew perfectly well that he loved her...i never liked their relationship in season six but why do you people keep forgetting that she started this relationship NOT HIM!!! not once, TWICE...and how many times did she say NO at first and then went through with what they BOTH wanted...this was no different...or at least he didn't think this was different.and yes he lost control...but HE STOPPED...YES spike stopped himeself and couldn't go through with it and here are the reasonsafter Buffy pushed him he could still go on with what he was doing...she was physically weak and hurt and he could easily take her but he didn't...and after he went back to his crypt he said "what have i done!!" and then it was like he remembered he was SUPPOSE to be evil and not feel guilty like he did so he talked to himself again saying "why didn't i do it!!" ...and after that in episode 'never leave me' in season 7 when he was trying to get Buffy to kill him he told her "you got off easy too" and she was silent because she knew he was right...Spike isn't a raper nor did he try to rape Buffy...she used him and hurt him and he was angry and lost control...and he found a way to punish himself by going through trails to earn his soul knowing that he'll suffer for what he'd done for over 100 years.you're taking the act ignoring all circumstances that lead to it and judging a whole character based on that!!!!AND YOU KEEP COMPARING SOULLESS SPIKE TO SOULFUL ANGEL!!!YOU'RE NOT CRAZY...YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO HATE ANY CHARACTER YOU WANT..JUST DON'T START JUDGING OTHERS BASED ON YOUR OWN THINKING...CAUSE FOR ME AND OBVIOUSLY MOST PEOPLE WHO ANSWERED YOU YOU'RE NOT BEING LOGIC WITH YOUR REASONS

I'm with Itoy247!!!I don't like Angel myself, but I'm not saying that he wasn't a good character, there are many people out there who loved him and he put on a good show for six years. I don't get all angry when someone tells me that they liked him better than Spike and I don't pretend EVERYONE thinks the same way I do. That's just the way you feel and I can respect THAT. But don't go telling people (and as you can see there are many of us out there) that what they like is wrong. We all have our reasons (and there are good ones) to prefer Spike. And think for a second that if the producers and writers of the show saw that the character wasn't working be dam sure that they would have killed it for good. SOMETHING must have been working with Spike If they made the character soo big!And no, of course I wouldn't like to get rape, but also I don't go around using someone that loves me and then treating him like dirt, and getting jealous if he is with someone else (do I have to remind you that Spike got in Buffy's bathroom because he wanted to APOLOGIZE for his "indiscretion" with Anya? after the way she treated him?? A soulless guy???). And then yes, he lost control, that would happen to someone without a soul!! Please don't forget what Angel did when he lost his! (But the girls already told you so I'm not going there again). So please...try to remember that a lot of people out there watch the freaking show BECAUSE of Spike. Some of us liked him better in season 6, others in season 7 (I liked him in both), but we all stayed tuned because of that character...and I'm quite sure non of us are rape victims wannabes!!So if you don't like him...that's fine...you don't have to. But please don't tell me that he stopped both shows because he has a hell lot of fans there that still (years after it ended) are willing to pick a good catfight on his name!!!

I discovered BTVS years after it ended and I loved it !!!In the first three seasons, the relationship Angel/Buffy was great. They made me cry more than once. Especially at the end of season 2 when Buffy kills Angel after he gets his soul back. Then there's the episode "I will remember you" in the first season of Angel. My god, I've never cried that much watching a TV Show. The last scenes were heartbreaking and I have to say that SMG cries better than anybody else. Those two are definitely meant to be together.
But there's also Spike. JM is a great actor. He was able to play the bad ass vampire in love with a crazy chick (Drucilla) whose sole purpose is to kill the slayer, and then to show us a soulless creature who falls in love with that same slayer. After her death, he takes care of her sister for her, he protects her. And when she comes back, she is different and he is the only one who understands it. He is also the only one who knows the truth about where she was which proves that she kind of trusts him. Buffy was never in love with Spike, she used him, but together, they were definitely hot and powerful. And there was something between them, something that I can't name, but something that made Spike believe in Buffy and support her when everybody else, even her sister and her closest friends abandoned her. It wasn't just love, it was more than that.So I think that in the end, Spike is the champion but Angel is Buffy's soul mate.
The people who say that Spike is just a rapist have understood nothing about the character and the show. He makes mistakes from time to time, just like anybody else, the only difference is that he has no soul, the others do. And yet, he never forgave himself for trying to do it.
Buffy changes a lot too throughout the seasons. She is a little girl who is afraid to die in the first season and she becomes a powerful, strong, independent woman who sacrifices herself to save her sister's life. She learns to embrace completely her duty to become the most powerful slayer ever and to change the order of things for ever. It's very inspiring to watch her stand after all the awful things she's had to go trough.
Willow is a very important character too. She was an insecure nobody and she became a most powerful witch. She is very important to the show.
I like Cordelia in Buffy, she is funny to watch as a cliché cheerleader. Then she becomes more responsible, more grown-up but she is still very amusing. But I really dislike her in the fourth season of Angel. She is so different, she is not herself anymore and when she sleeps with Connor and then is pregnant and evil, she is just very annoying. It's too bad that her storyline made her do all those stupid things.

I also really like Charmed. I find it strange that there's no mention of it in this article. The relationships between the sisters are very interesting and I think that it's also a very useful show. We learn a lot about mythology and legends. And it's great to watch them grow and change to become powerful women. Contrary to athena0606 I didn't like Prue, her relationship with Pheobe was boring and she was so proud that it was really tiresome. But the three others and the male character were awsome.

With the Buffy Topic. I think we all should realize that both of them were good characters, and both actors succeeded the purpose. I for one, am not a fan of either Spike or Angel, but overall I think they gave a real compassion for the show and showed who Buffy really was. Buffy of course is me favorite, as she's just fab. I also really liked the Villian in Season Five Glory, played by Clare Kramer.
Tara was also a favorite of mine. In "Once more with Feeling" I think she had the best voice of them all. She did a really good job.
Overall though, Riley was my favorite of Buffy's boyfriends. Obviously he was just the rebound guy, but I liked him. He was just your average guy, until you found out he hunts demons in a secret army thing, but that just happens lol. Overall, he's might favorite because of his average joe-ness, and you get to see Buffy truly defend herself for once, instead of having the guy come in and rescuing her all the time. It truly defined her at that point I do believe, instead of having her needing all the help. It truly showed her battle was alone the whole time. Whether she realized it or not.
Either way as I said, both Spike and Angel are good. Just a matter of opinion. :)
On Smallville, I was always a fan of Clark, and Lana. Not together I suppose, even when they dated it didn't seem like they dated. It just seemed like their normal friendship, as you never actually seen them go anywhere together or do anything. It was just bleh. Lana always defined the kind of gal i wanna be though. She had the sassy yet friendly aura, and then if you got in her face, she'd give you that nasty spin kick. I've always admired her. Pete and Chloe are also nice.
In VM. of course I love Veronica. Kristen Bell is a supreme queen and as many other's said. The show ended way too early.
Charmed, I was a fan of Prue as well. Shannon Doherty may be a bitch to get along with, but she's a phenomenal actress and she honestly, plays any role well. She'd made 90210 and I think she made Charmed as well. (not literally making it, but she was the reason i watched)
The OC. I was always a fan of Julie Cooper(nickel) and Ryan. Those two had serious hilarity with one another, but also the bad boy trying to go good, is always fun. Marissa was ok, but way too melo-dramatic, and always doing something to get herself into trouble. I also like Sadie, played by Nikki Reed. I think they should've kept her and Ryan together longer, but never the less it was well played. Seth is kinda cute too. With the Christmukkah.
Supernatural. Dean is definitely a favorite, but Sam probably takes the cake for me. Sam has alot more to deal with in my opinion, with the powers and visions and what not. Dean is your casual, husband on the road. (LMFAO) the beer, the comedy, is great, but definitely not what having supernatural is all about. At least int ehf irst two season anyways. Dean makes a comeback in season three, when he goes to hell for sam, and truly, season three was his season lol. I also was a fan of both Ruby and Bela, especially Bela as she's just witty, and bitchy, and fun. Ruby, was good when Katie played her, but after they switched her body it was over for me.
uhm, that's all I can remember for now. I suppose i'll have to give another detailed analysis later on. I love all teh shows the WB had, and I wish that they would come back, but sadly I doubt that will happen. it was the prime of my childhood and now it's gone. =(
Still though, DVD's are always good right <3

The problem with Ruby is when you've gotten to know someone you associate their image with their character. When Ruby switched bodies I ended up with the Hating on New Characters Syndrome for her. But I relearned who she was and now I love her again. But I still have to try hard to connect the new Ruby with the old.
A character from Supernatural that I think was awesome is Azazel. That probably has a lot to do with Fredric Lehne. He pulled off some real good acting. Especially as those contacts made it difficult for him to see where he was going and what he was looking at.
In the first season I didn't care much for all the references to him but now I still wonder about him. He always did interesting things. Great character. And sexy actor.

Veronica Mars, Buffy, Pheobe and Piper Halliwell, and Brooke Davis. I'm sensing a theme here...

Alrightie, my favorite characters on WB shows.
THE OC - Summer Roberts. She was a real character with her insecurities but she was also really strong. Her growth throughout the seasons was realistic. I liked that she didn't have drama riding along with her in every episode. Plus, she was hilarious.
ROSWELL - Surprised that no one has mentioned this one yet. But my favorite Roswell character is Maria DeLuca. She's amazing, independent, and I love her plot in season three. She's one of the few characters on television who have broken up with the love of their lives to find themselves. Of course, I also squealed like a little girl when in the end she chose to go with the Pod Squad but that's because I'm a hopeless Candy girl. Michael and Maria for the win!
ONE TREE HILL - Brooke Davis. Brilliant, beautiful, brave. She's going to change the world one day. All of those great things written in Lucas' book. By the way, Brooke and Lucas are the soulmates in my opinion (please don't start a flamewar.) I also did like Peyton in season one and two, before she got all whiny and emo.
GILMORE GIRLS - Jess Mariano. Compelling character and the only one that could make Rory change her mind on school. Think about it. Everyone she loved told her to go back. She didn't listen. Jess yelled at her and told her that she wasn't being herself and the next day, she's back at school. Jess saved her from herself. Sorry, I love Jess.
BUFFY - Okay, so since I didn't watch enough Angel, I'm just going with Buffyverse. My fave characters were Dawn Summers and Willow Rosenberg. I know a lot of people found Dawn completely annoying, but I loved her so much. She was a great character and of course she was a little annoying. One, she was the only teenager. Two, she had to grow up way too fast. Three, she found out she wasn't real and then everyone in her family died. See if you aren't a little whiny after that. Yet in Potential, she handed over the responsibility to the one it belonged to. I will always love Xander's speech from Potential. On Willow, she's just amazing. Her growth throughout the season. And the fact that her threat to the world was all about humanity and only humanity could save her. Oh yeah, Xander is also one of my favorite characters on Buffy.
And for the debate that's been going on, I'm team Spike. Sorry but Angel annoys me (which is why I didn't watch Angel.)

Where is Keith Mars?? Best father/daughter pair on television, hands down.
I'd also go ahead and argue for Wallace (...until season 3) and Logan, but Keith and Veronica absolutely deserve spots.

I tend to like the characters who go through so much bad stuff but still come out with strength and courage, and are able to keep on fighting despite whats happened. So my favourites are:
OTH: Peyton. I know a lot of people hated her but I really admired how she went through losing all these people she loves, and even had an attempt made on her life, but she came out with her head held high and found the strength to trust people again. The psycho-derek episodes were brilliant.
BtVS: Buffy. She was always the fighter, didn't let anything or anyone get her down. She sacrificed so much for the greater good, but she never gave up. Thats what made her so amazing.
Charmed: Tricky one. I liked them all really. Except Piper, because I got pretty bored with her after she got her happily ever after - it just stopped being interesting. I liked Phoebe because of the whole self defence thing she started early on which meant she could defend herself without having to rely on her powers like the others. But I also liked Prue because she had so much on her shoulders having to be the oldest but she refused to give in.
Roswell: Ok, another tricky one. I really liked Liz in s2e05 when she really showed the strength of her character by giving up the one she loved to save the world.
Angel: Doyle was awesome but he didn't last long. Although she was late to the series, I really liked Fred. She managed to recover from 5 years spent in another dimension where she was treated like dirt, and she was really smart which I admired. In the Jasmine episodes she is on her own but still shows courage and determination, helping the others to realise the truth even though it puts her in danger.

I feel so sorry for Jared Padalecki - he got shafted twice in one article! lol
I have to say I preferred him with Rory (who is my absolute fave WB character ever, closely followed by Veronica - who I just started watching as well).
I also prefer him over Dean in Supernatural.
Someone also mentioned Roswell which I didn't get on the WB, but that was also one of my all time favs. I honestly thought Shiri Appleby and Jason Behr would have exploded after that, guess not...
And as to the Angel vs. Spike debate. I stopped watching when Buffy and Spike started...well doing whatever they were doing, and I've never cared enough to finish watching the series. That pretty much ruined it for me and I prefer to remember Buffy before that happened.
That being said, there is no wrong or right as to who was better, each individual viewer is entitled to an opinion.
