Good news for those who found Lily's back story a little boring! The controversial Gossip Girl spin-off, which didn't exactly live up to its hype, is officially not happening. That's according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, who gave an update on several major upfront-week developments.
"Among new shows, The CW has picked up Melrose Place 2.0, Beautiful Life, and Vampire Diaries. Oh, and the Gossip Girl spin-off is officially dead," Ausiello wrote.
The news that the Gossip Girl spin-off is over doesn't really come as a surprise. As reported previously, the series that was supposed to chronicle the teenage years of Lily van der Woodsen has been overthrown by other pilot projects on The CW's slate.
Deadline Hollywood was the first to report that the spin-off is "done." And that "the show went from hot, to lukewarm, to "fading but wouldn't count out", to now dead, according to insiders."
Moreover, "Valley Girls," the Gossip Girl flashback episode that was supposed to launch the spin-off, hasn't exactly reaped good reviews. If you missed it, you can read a recap in this article.
Despite the rumors swirling around for some time that the spin-off would not get picked up by the network, several fans have been holding out hope that it might make it to the screen, with Brittany Snow and Krysten Ritter on the forefront.
