Secret Life Gets Record Ratings

I watched the premiere of The Secret Life of The American Teenager last night on ABC Family, so I guess that makes me one out of the record 2.8 million viewers.

Yep, the show set a record for the network for the most viewers for a new show's premiere. However, Kyle XY still holds the record for most viewers of an episode of an ABC Family Original program for last season's finale.

How did you guys like the premiere?

Personally, I was a little bit disappointed. I really wanted to like the show, but I found the characters to be a just a little bit too stereotyped for my taste (jock, band geek, Christian, etc.). However, most egregious for me was the dialogue. I just found so many of the interactions to be so far-removed from the way that conversations in high school would ever sound (or be about), that I frequently cringed when listening.

I'll give it another shot, but I wasn't wowed. For me, this is not another Kyle XY or Greek, both of which I think were pleasant surprises in terms of their quality.

is this show yet another movie/show that glamorized teenage pregnancy and makes it seem like everything will be fine?

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed...I have to say I really enjoyed it. While I can see your point about the dialogue, I think it might seem more natural once we know more about the characters and their personalities. Not to mention, high school has changed a bit since I was there, haha. I think they are a lot more advanced than I want to remember!
And supasista, it actually seems to do the very opposite of glamorizing teen pregnancy. There were actually moments were I felt nauseous for the poor girl and her pregnancy situation. I genuinely felt regret for her, and I think a lot of teens watching will too.

Of course they are stereotyped! It's a brenda hampton show! Too politically correct! I think that the idea is good, but the acting....arrrgh lack of experience and the main actress is not that goodI will give it another shot too because I don't have anything better to do...I still think it will get cancelled

It was way to stereotypical, i enjoyed the inexperience of not being able to act or being able to act as a normal teenager would but it seems to be to centered on the fact she is pregnant even if its the main point. It needs to do something about the other characters interaction with this a bit more then they know.

Do you mean showing more of the character's reactions to her pregnancy? I think as more people find out, we'll see more reaction. For now, I think they are still developing each character...and I have to say, I'm enjoying the side plots too! I am really anxious to see her dad's reaction. After his "boys like nice girls' speech, I'm pretty sure he will be absolutely astounded.

You got to remember this show is from the creator of 7th Heaven, so this show was bound to have "interactions to be so far-removed from the way that conversations in high school would ever sound" If you've watch a 7th heaven episode its exactly same way.
