CW Looking to Spin off Gossip Girl

The CW announced Thursday that it's looking at ways to spin off Gossip Girl for next season.

CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff confirms that there is nothing yet official, but they are currently examining ways to do it.

So...let's talk. Who could be spun off and how? Frankly, I don't think main characters including Dan, Serena, Blair or Chuck (and to a lesser extent, Nate, though of the core group I think he's the most expendable) are even options...as it would ruin Gossip Girl.

The obvious choice is Jenny. What do you think?

Other options: Vanessa, Georgina (who the CW has confirmed will return), someone else?

I think that gossip girl was good in the beginning, but is getting ridiculess. It's only been one season and everyone has dated everyone. That's just my opinion.

I think jenny would be the most likely choice. I really like this show tho. I agree the first season was a bit better but the show is still pretty cute.
Love me some Serena! She's soooo cute!

I don't think Jenny's strong enough to pull a successful spin-off, but I have been wrong before. And I worry that without the classic Gossip Girl voice-over a new show would lack freshness.

Umm...I don't think so (with respect to the idea of a spin-off).

@Spryntz - Yeah, it could most definitely be an epic failure.@cbprice - I have my doubts about Jenny too...as I worry that the character just isn't likable enough to carry a show. I never find myself rooting for her...she's kind of insufferable. But I still think she's the most logical choice.

ummm... well duh.
not saying that it's a good idea or anything (because it will probably be really unsuccessful and flop after a season), but there already is a spin off of gossip girl.

if anyone remembers how they were books before, the "It Girl" series is the Jenny Humphrey spin-off. she gets kicked out of Constance Billard and gets sent to boarding school.

honestly i think the most SUCCESSFUL spin-off from what i've seen would be a Georgina one. on shear acting experience and ability alone Michelle Tractenberg could totally pull off being a lead in a series and i think that depending on what they do w/ her storyline when she comes back they could totally make that work and have great crossover eps as well.

they already said they are likely to do a Dorota spin off. That would be hilarious, seeing the behind the scenes stuff from Dorota's POV.
that is their best bet. Jenny, no, that would be boring as hell. Any character who has had anything major happen to them is a no no.

The Dorotoa spinoff, however, is a separate entity. They are going to be shorts - I believe - designed for mobile phones or some such business. However, an entire show from Dorota's perspective could/would probably be awesome.

I thought that they were gonna do something about all the main characters going to Yale. to me that sounds better and were so familiar with the characters we all want to see how their lives turn out. This show could be like the next Friends or One Tree Hill.

I think it's georgina after the writer stating they r not following the books anymore. therefore the spin off will be georgina as she was suppose to be in gossip girl for longer, but she won't. Therefore i woudl think it's obviosu to say it's georgina.

Most spin offs never last. I think it would be pointless to think about one now especially since Gossip Girl is only on its 2nd season.

I think IF they do a spin off it's gonna be a jenny spin-off!!!!!
Even if the writers said they don't follow the books on Gossip Girl anymore, that doesn't mean they are not going to base the spin-off on a book (-> the It-girl books with Jenny as the main character)!
I think it's obvious that there's gonna be a jenny-spin off based on the It-Girl novels. However, I don't think it's gonna be good because the Jenny on the TV show Gossip Girl is so different from the Jenny in the books, and TV-Jenny is not really a likable character...

i defo think that it would be a jenny spin off because everyone else is too important to leave gossip girl ,not sayin jenny isn its jus that she would be able get away with leavin show!wel if it does happen i think a spin off with jenny would be good..the books seemed to manage to pull it off?

course if Jenny is so expendable to the show, could she really headline a spinoff??? I think the CW should just leave well enough alone and stick with making Gossip Girl better

the CW are bumbling idiots who don't understand that you need to leave good things untouched.
I and I know the Dorota thing is for cell phones, verizon wireless is on board for it.
anyway, back to what I was saying, spin offs are miserable failures. shows that become successful are so because of the entire cast, not just one character or a few. thats why spin offs fail. no matter how loveable the character. lets say the GG audience things blair is the best thing since sliced bread, a spin off still wouldn't work cause it would lack conflict with existing characters and so on.
need an example? look at Joey. Have no idea what that is? exactly. it was the spin off from Friends. how long did it last? 2 seasons if that.

Joey is bad I agree, but not all spin-offs are bad. I like Private Practice for example!
@ xXxchachiexXx I think the It-girl books were as good as (if not better than) the GG books. What is kind of cool about them is that they are set at a bording school so they have a lot of parties there and constantly sneek into each others dorms but there are also a lot of catfights! Jenny is so different in the books though. Kind of chubby and insecure but she fights her way through and stays true to herself!

As Dorota is continually my favorite character, I would love a dramady type show from her POV. I think a half-hour show would work great for that...
I wouldn't mind a georgina-centric show either, but I would definitely NOT watch The Jenny Show.
