Desperate Housewivezzzzz: A Season Finale SnoreFest - Featured

Spoilers Included

Why have I labeled Desperate Housewives as Desperate Housewivezzzzzz in this review title? Because the season finale put me to sleep!

I have to tell you, I have been supremely disappointed in the second half of this season of Desperate Housewives. I initially praised the show for it's 5 year time leap. I was skeptical, but it really did seem to effectively reenergize the show, and for the first half of the season I was enjoying the series the most that I had in quite some time.

But...midway through the season, it's like the writers got bored, and all of the progress that the show made vanished. Dave climaxed as a villain when he was harassing Mrs. McClusky (how creepy was that) and pinning arson to Lynette's son...like 10 episodes ago! He hasn't been compelling as a villain since. They even managed to make Edie's big death/send off uninteresting (frankly, the similar episode where the handyman died was better). The reveal that he was David Dash was predictable, and, since we know Susan will never be in any true danger, was part of the reason why the finale was a snorefest.

More on Susan: Sweet Jesus; I know it's supposed to be a cliffhanger who Mike decided to marry, but frankly, I'll be pissed either way. Remarrying Susan will be infuriating, as I don't think the show will allow Mike and Susan to be happy until the series finale, though I don't think I can stomach any additional Susan crises. But...if Mike married Katherine, it will just be a further delaying of the inevitable, and a long, infuriating path of predictable lies and adultery.

However, Susan's character is not the only one that I was disappointed with. Was there really so little to do with Lynette (generally my favorite housewife) that the best they could think of was to give her another baby?!?! Was the best they could do for Gaby to stick Carlos' manipulative niece in the house? This one reeks of Lynette's plotline with Tom's illegitimate daughter from about 2 seasons ago. Thus, the only housewife whose plot I found vaguely interesting was Bree's, as even though a Karl hookup was a long time coming, at least it's something new!

So...from what I can see, the show went to all of the trouble to skip ahead 5 years to mix things up, and over the course of the season, has managed to set everything back to the status quo. Sorry all, but I think it's time for Desperate Housewives to end. These housewives are past their prime.

What did you think of the season finale? Did it put you to sleep as well? Disagree with me? Who do you think Mike married?

I thought it was the best finale yet. Although it was obvious that he wouldn't kill Susan, I thought MJ would die (I would have been happy if he had). I thought that it was such a perfect mix of comedy and thrilling drama. As for the five year jump, I hated it, and I'm glad that it's all gone back to normal.Except for Lynettes hair!

I have to agree with you podge2980, I thought this season finale was great. The end, with MJ's life hanging by a thread was soooo great. For a moment, I thought somebody was going to die. I also think it was a good (but weird) idea that Bree had an affair with Karl.Personnally, I think Mike is going to marry Katherine, because frankly, being married again with Susan would be a little repetitive.

I dont want Mike to marry Susan, that would be boring! But as far a Lynnette being pregnant, that sooo sucks! she always gets the bad side of the deal. no thrilling part there. Susan's captivity was boring! I have to admit it almost made me cry when Dave had those flashbacks.

I think that they should have made it a little ore thrilling when it came to susan. Come on would you really yell out for your child even with a gun in your face or get out of a car with your child still inside with a crazy man! I think that is why it was so predictable. She really didn't put herself out there to save MJ. Mike did a lot better. The only part that susan tried was with the rock and then the whole thing was blaaaaaa. I hope Mike marries Kathrine because Susan is such a drama queen and it would push the season further back
As for Lynnette being prego I find that to be very funny. They finally have most of the children grown up and out of the house and then bam twins. I hope it's a girl and a boy. Besides we need a few more kidos in the series again.
Bree and Karl is going to be a twister. I'm excited to see how things will turn out. She has always been the proper 50's wife and this is a dramatic change.
I hated Gaby as a chubby un-pretty mom it was better she wen back to being rich. Maybe this wont be like Lynnette situation, as the girl Gabby is taking care of is some what like Gaby. This could end up with a dramatic change in Gaby for the future who can tell...
I was half and half with the conclusion but w/e it wont change my opinion.

I both disagree and disagree with your statements. Firstly id like to address that desperate housewives should not be canceled, as it is one of the most versatile shows on TV Much different to lost, prison break and so on.
I agree about the marriage, prospect though its not really that exciting to last until the next series. Either one he marries will be some cliché and boring. If the writers were really clever, the wedding would probably have been in the future, where mike has actually found a new women, who doesn't live on the same street!

To be fair, its going to be hard for the next season, cause as we know all the drama now its just going to be about Susan being single or married, Bree having an affair or not having an affair, Gaby dealing with a troublesome teenager, and Lynnette having a baby - that will be the whole of the next series.

But good luck to the writers cause they are going to need it!

This was the absolute worse finale of the series whose season was looking up with new cast member Drea de Matteo added. There were no surprises, oh yes a baby mix up hmmmm andrew and sam purhaps and bringing back Mark Moses hopefully to be added Harriet Samson Harris whom I sorely have missed. I guess the writers again didn't know what to do with the gay charectors, so let's get rid of them. And the Susan and Mike "dinosaur hunt" was impossible to keep viewing, will someone please end these charectors exsistance on Wysteria Lane? Psycho killer kidnapping Lynette, didn't see that coming yeah right. Every aspect of the finale was all very predictable and sadly very lame. Redemption is definately needed on the season opening to keep my interest going forward.
