'Bones' boss promises 'big changes' next season

SPOILER ALERT: If you have yet to watch tonight's Bones finale, stop reading now. I repeat, if you have yet to watch tonight's Bones finale, stop reading now. For the last time, if you have yet to watch tonight's Bones finale, stop reading now. Everyone else, onward and downward'

A word about the season finale of Bones, in which the entire Jeffersonian team - Booth and Brennan included -split up: whoa! That said, let's ask executive producer Stephen Nathan one of the only two questions you have - and since 'WTF? ' is rather a rude query, I'm going with, 'okay, what next? '

'The start of the season will have Booth and Brennan meeting [12 months later] at the coffee cart, and the series will start again' though on very different footing,' he says. 'There will be big changes. '

Big as in, maybe B&B don't come back alone big? 'Perhaps not alone, ' Nathan teases, adding, 'There's a potential for a new recurring character or two next season. '

But don't freak - or try not to, he pleads. When the Jeffersonian team reassembles, your favorite characters will all be there, and they'll - be the same people, [just] with one solid year of independent life under their belts. So when they see each other again, they will be different.

'Our intention was to really shake things up, ' Nathan continues, 'so that we don't just come back with the same dynamic. '

Mission accomplished! Thoughts? Will absence make the heart grow fonder - or further apart? Sound off below!

i think this is crap! i just want bones and booth to get together and stop making them be apart. it's ridiculous. i love this show and have watched since it began and it was obvious from the first episode that they are in love so let them admit it already!

Oh,come on!! The show has never been about romance between booth and bones. Will you "shippers" just stop that already?? If they get together, the show will become boring. Personally, I want to see character development, witty dialogs and "squinty" murder investigations. So,imho, this season final (and season in general) was really great.

It was definitely an interesting episode. On one hand it's kinda sad that bones and booth will be apart for an year with all their unresolved issues but It's great that the show is going to be changing and the characters are going to be evolving. Hopefully it doesn't change how booth and brennan feel about each other, unless brennan meets someone in the millu wahtever islands and he is just like her..i find it unlikely that booth will try and find someone new..anyway I'm excited to see where he show goes and I'm counting down the days rather months till it airs again:(

this is the best thing ever it needed to happen other wise the story lines would have been the same it is not a love story it was never a love story its about investigating murders via the jeffersonian and the F.B.I looking forward to what the writers can do new

I liked the dynamic. Change the dynamic are they nuts. I probably will not watch the show anymore. It has been my #1 for years now. I am so sad that they decided to screw with the characters and "change things". I love that it is a show I could depend on so to speak. At least I got a happy ending with Angela and Hodgins.

My personal feelings aside this was just all around a poorly written episode. Not so much because of results, rather the fact that it felt half hearted. At least with last year's finale even if you hated it you have to admit they went ALL out. This episode felt like the writers "phoned it in".

@gaurdianofhell
It is not exactly a love story and it's main aim is not to solve murders through collaboration of the FBI and the jeffersonian. Like all Drama themed tv shows it is an insight and exploration into the human condition. About different types of people and how they react in certain situations. It's also and exploration of relationships. Some people may say this is all fiction and not related to the real world but I say that this is no different to the plays that Shakespear or any other author or playwright have writen. They all explore contemporary themes. So please don't devalue it by saying it only is about murder and crime. Its a work of art.

lol i don't see booth finding a new gf in the middle of a war. remember he is going to afghan. not many opportunities there. and unless brennan hooks up with some hottie scientist she find in indonesia i also don't see many possibilities there either. But as far as daisy goes i think she blew it with sweets. lets just keep our fingers crossed that hogdens and angela come back in one piece.

I agree with truble. The show is an insight into the human condition. As for B&B's relationship, that is part of what gives us the insight. IF they get together it changes everything and part of what makes the show so great would be lost. (not that I'm not a romantic and don't secretly wish for their union!). The year apart might just be good for the show. Characters will have a chance to grow, which, in my humble opinion,, gives us takes some of the staleness out and gives us all the chance of another 5 seasons to look forward to.

I think they should all wierdly regroup including booths brother and do shows at the island like some kind of bones/ indiana jones type feel . I mean it couldnt hurt ratings look at cast away and other island shows. Plus it would make for an exciting new feel with an established cast it would be brillant.

Man. Even my DAD, a man who usually doesn't care AT ALL for relationship in TV shows is PISSED OFF. He watches the DVD, so he didn't watch season 5. He told me after seeing season four's last episode (Booth's dream) that if Bones and Booth did not got together in season 5, he'd give up on this show. We're talking about a man here, not a 14 years old fangirl. He's like "it's so obvious that they are in love that it hurts"
He bought me season 1 to 4 in DVD so he could watch it. I think I'm gonna have to buy season 5 on my own.
I swear on my cat's name that if they do not get together last season, I'll be done too.For all of you who are reading my post, WATCH FRINGE INSTEAD! WAY better show!

i find Booth and Bones's relationship very essential to the story line, kinda like in How I Met Your Mother, i have a feeling that when they finally end up being together, it will closer to the end of the series. it seems to be one of those things that is exciting to watch happen in slow motion. because its one of the main things aside from the actual murders that help the story line along
