Smallville: Justice Society TV-Movie? - Featured

Smallville is going Super sized for one night. The CW has decided to air the upcoming Justice Society storyline, filmed as two episodes, as a TV-Movie event, says EW.com's Michael Ausiello. Those episodes, written by DC Comics writer Geoff Johns, introduce Hawkman, Stargirl and Doctor Fate, along with DC villain Amanda Waller (played by Pam Grier, no less).

Ausiello says he's told, "CW execs felt they could get more mileage," by combining the two episodes. In recent weeks, Smallville has been holding its own on Friday nights - After a considerable drop at the start of the season after the change in nights, ratings have been going up almost every week, and it's looking increasingly likely there will be a Season 10. I'd say The CW deciding to make an "event" out of this storyline is another positive sign that the network is seeing the value in the long-running series.

The two-hour Justice Society Smallville TV-Movie is set to air Friday, January 29th, says Ausiello.

Good idea hopefully this will increase the ratings of Smallville, and this will push for a season 10. This show is getting better and better each week...

Hear hear. I'd love to see them bring back Doomsday and give us the epic battle that we should've had last season.

I like the idea of the TV Movie, but I'm also uncomfortable with the idea of them extending the show's run indefinitely. You can keep Superman from becoming Superman for so long. And given that the original premise has been largely done away with, I think it's time for the show to really start thinking about winding down and closing shop. Go out while they're still on top in the line of Lost, BSG, Buffy, and other great cult TV shows.
