It has now been confirmed that "Megan Wants a Millionaire" and "I Love Money" season 3 will not air on VH1. The two reality series have been canceled following the murder of model Jasmine Fiore whose husband, Ryan Jenkins, is a contestant in both shows and allegedly a winner in "I Love Money".
In blog post dated Monday, August 24, VH1 wrote, "Just in case you missed it, we're sad to announce that the fate of both 'Megan Wants a Millionaire' and 'I Love Money 3' have been determined: both have been canceled and will not make it to air." Unlike "Millionaire" that managed to air three episodes, "Money" was actually saved for 2010 premiere.
The news came a day after Jenkins was found dead in a Canadian motel. He is suspected to have committed a suicide by hanging himself. Just five days after Fiore's mutilated body was found inside a suitcase, Jenkins was declared a murder suspect by Authorities in Orange County, Calif.
"There's not really much to add to that by way of commentary. Tragedy begets tragedy. Of course, our sympathy goes out to the friends and families of Jasmine Fiore and Ryan Jenkins, as it has for the past several days," VH1 issued further statement.
In the meantime, a contestant who previously joined one of the shows told People that producing studio 51 Minds did a background check on the contestants before casting them. "We did give them lots of extensive background information," said the former contestant, who did not want to be identified. "They wanted to know my criminal history, social security numbers, multiple different times, and drivers' license numbers."
They, however, failed to recognize Jenkins' criminal background. He was actually charged with assault in Canada two years ago that required him to do several months of probation.
