If some former residents of 90s hit Melrose Place aren't too keen in going back to that place, it's another story for Laura Leighton, who used to play clever and playful Sydney Andrews. If you know your 90s soap opera, you'd know that at the end of the series, she married Craig Field (David Charvet), only to get hit by a car and die at the wedding reception. Apparently, not only did she live, she also has a child - Violet, played by Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
"There was no hesitation," Leighton tells OK! in reference to her return to Melrose Place as landlady. "It was a no-brainer. I knew this would be something really fun to do. It wasn't just a pitch from the producers -- it was a [fully written] script and they said, 'Please, read it!' I did, and I loved it. It's really unique and, at the same time, I think it captures the tone of a fun Melrose show, but in a very modern way.
Leighton also reveals that the new Melrose Place will fill in the gap to show "parts of the missing years." Ultimately, viewers will get to see what happened since we last visited the place.
But didn't she have qualms about playing the old lady in the middle of these kids? "The concept of this updated version is terrific; it's modern, edgy and fun to be a part of -- even if I have to play the old lady," she says, adding that Sydney Andrews was such a "fun" character to play.
